Critic reviews

"The quest tale is turned asunder when Shrek, a hideous monster, must leave the home of his ugly parents in search of his ideal bride. He finds his vision of repulsiveness, and they live "horribly ever after". The running gag is one to which children will respond immediately, but there are also depths to be plumbed." (Kimberley Olson Fakih, The Literature of Delight: A Critical Guide to Humorous Books for Children)

Good for all ages

My four year old adores this (especially Brave Irene and Dr De Soto) but I've also used it to successfully entertain a 2.5 year old and two 8 year olds on a long car trip. I've heard it at least a dozen times, and still find it amusing. Highly recommend.
