About this listen
Francis Parkman's journal - written more than 150 years ago, in 1846 - provides an eye-witness account of one of the grandest adventures in American history. At age 23, the Harvard-educated Bostonian traveled the Rocky Mountains, living among the Dakota Sioux. In his journal, he captured the color, spirit, and perspective of his era, as well as the exuberant confidence that was the mark of his time. Frank Muller's dramatic reading brings this captivating record to life.
Public Domain (P)1996 The Audio Partners PublishingCritic reviews
"...with a rich and colorful narrative style, [Parkman] is, in the opinion of many, the greatest of American historians." (Frank N. Magill, Cyclopedia of World Authors)

An interesting listen.
An interesting listen but did not tell me much that I didn't already know from other sources. However, I did listen to the end and didn't regret it.

Fantastic tale
A real insight into the hardships experienced by these intrepid pioneers. Loved the dry language and delivery of hysterical moments

Is what it is...
Must say it's not filled with the most crazy exciting moments the way I had originally hoped. But it kept me interested to hear all through his travel across the Americas at this time. A must listen for any Cowboy/Western fan to see how it really was in those days travelling the trail without the big movie style coverage

The sad end of an era
Glimpses of lost cultures of native Americans and the animals and wildlife that supported them. All so soon to be destroyed by the soldiers, trappers and invaders also depicted in this memoir. So sad.....
