About this listen

People often wonder about the Osage tribe, who they were, where they came from, and what happened to them. Unless you are a student of Indian history or Missouri history, you may not be able to answer any of these questions. In simple descriptive terms the author will answer these questions, and many more. In the historical era, the European explorers paved the way for wave after wave of invading numbers seeking adventure, freedom, domination, and riches.

The tale of an extremely hardy group which populated much of the county’s middle lands is uncovered. From the sightings of the first white man to set foot on their lands to the continuous wars with their neighbors, which kept them powerful and in control, the Osage (known as (Ni-u-kon-ska, “People of the Middle Waters”) fought hard, and died with honor. They have survived to exist in modern times as a well-organized, reputable people who live in a white man’s world that they have embraced.
