Summary

A beautifully written dystopian thriller set in an underground bunker.

The bunker is a place of safety.

Wolfe is the bunker's resident pharmacist. While the inhabitants wait for the outside world to heal, she doles out ibuprofen, sanitary towels and Xanax—all under the watchful eye of the increasingly erratic and paranoid leader.

The bunker is a place of hope.

But when the leader starts to ask things of Wolfe, favours she can hardly say no to, her world is thrown off its axis once again. Forming an unlikely alliance with the young Doctor Stirling, her troubled assistant Levitt and Canavan—a tattooed giant of a man who's purpose in the bunker is a mystery—Wolfe has to navigate the powder keg of life underground, knowing her every move is being watched.

The bunker is a place of survival.

It's not long before Wolfe is forced to question the sacrifices she's made for her own personal survival, and how much more she is willing to give to stay alive.

The bunker is a place of danger.

Interesting story

Recommended by a friend. Good story & characters. Something a bit different from the norm. Great narration.

Good dystopian story

The story is very well ell written and the narrator is doing an amazing job bringing it to life.
Will keep my eyes open for both the author and the narrator here on Audible.

Little to redeem it

Dull, depressing, lifeless. Same mood the whole way through and nothing ever really develops. Don’t bother.

Depressing story with unlikeable protagonist

This was extremely well written but the story was just so depressing and dull. I kept waiting for something to happen but
It just descended into a dark chaos. The narrator was amazing. Definitely one of the best ever narrations of more than 150 audio books. Just can’t recommend the story itself.

Good story and great narration

I enjoyed this book greatly. Whilst the story is well written and interesting, it is the narration that brings it to life. I loved all the Scottish accents (and other accents), I could really tell where each character lived before they entered the bunker!

Captivating, excellent narration

Loved Amy’s narration, the way the story fully engulfed me and the perfect peppering of small details and human nature that made it all feel so real. Worth a listen!

Excellent storytelling

This is how I like my Post Apocalypse fiction, entirely about the lives of survivors, not about what weapons they have and the fighting of endless enemies.

It’s tense, balancing the utter boredom of the daily routine and struggle in a bunker, with the worrying, then critical threat of a mad leader.

I really hope to see more of this type of novel, and more from this author.

Great narration too. Absolutely spot on.

A must read

This isn’t the kind of genre I’d normally read but a friend recommended it and I’m so glad she did. Such a well written book with complex characters and brilliant twists and turns. I’d highly recommend this book to anyone!
