With more than 12 years of performance experience, Acevedo has been a featured performer on BET and Mun2, as well as delivered several TED Talks. She has performed internationally, and her poetry has been featured in Cosmopolitan, The Huffington Post and Teen Vogue. Acevedo is a National Slam Champion, Beltway Grand Slam Champion, and the 2016 Women of the World Poetry Slam representative for Washington, DC, where she lives and works.

Poetry is good!
I do not read a lot of poetry it has to be said. This however was superb and I really enjoyed it. It covers some important life issues - body shaming, life as a teen, race, sexuality - the list goes on.
I feel it should be put on a to-read list in schools. An up to date and relevant conversation of society, unlike some of the other out dated nonsense we put in front of children today.

loved this and perfect as an audiobook
simple but impactful story. The author's narration made it even more profound and impactful to listen to, especially the way she recites the slam poetry. the audiobook definitely added to the beauty of the story

Amazing!
I absolutely love this audio book. I relived experiences of my teens while listening and could feel every word.

Thoroughly enjoyable
A thoroughly enjoyable short book, the poetry delivery styles made it incredibly engaging. It took my back to being a teen myself, also.

amazing!
I don't usually like stories written in poetry like this, and I only listened because I needed to know the story for work, but I LOVED it. Devoured it in a day.
The performance really brings the language to life and the story is layered and beautiful and sad.

Powerful.
