About this listen

Nearly all of us want to be more productive, but finding the method that works for you among the hundreds and hundreds of different tips, tricks and hacks can be a daunting prospect. After graduating college Chris Bailey decided to dedicate a whole year to doing just that - experimenting with as many of the techniques as he could and finding the things that work.

Among the experiments that he undertook are going several weeks on little to no sleep; cutting out caffeine and sugar; taking a daily siesta; living in total isolation for 10 days; stretching his workweek to 90 hours; and getting up at 5:30 every morning, all the while monitoring the impact of his experiments on the quality and quantity of his work. The results were often surprising!

This audiobook is the result of Chris' year-long journey, distilling the lessons he learned into a few core truths about how we get things done (or, indeed, don't). Among the many counterintuitive insights Chris discovered that had the biggest impact on his productivity were striving for imperfection, scheduling less time for important tasks, the 20 second rule to distract yourself from distractions, and the concept of productive procrastination.

In this accessible and fun guide, Chris Bailey offers over 30 tried and tested best practices that will help everyone to accomplish more - and become more awesome.

Defenitly worth the time

Book provides a lot of valuable tips and explanations. The voice of the author is very nice to listen to. I really enjoy the fast that the book it's written in a casual, less formal way, which makes the topic much more interesting. Defenitly will listen again in few months after implementing some of the changes

Better than habit books

Loved the audio book, packed with so many ways to look at your behaviour and all simple no money involved ideas, drink water, sleep, write a list of three etc.. and he explains why with backed up evidence. 1 hour less sleep equals 2 hours less in productivity. Already recommended this book to people and so much better than habit books.

Fantastic book! Thank you Chris.

I had this book in my 'To Read' list for a while but it quickly moved to the top of my 'To Listen to' list after hearing Chris Bailey on his podcast (Time and Attention) he does with his wife Ardyn. I loved the way he is so passionate about the subject of productivity and has such good conversations with his wife about it all.
The book was just as enjoyable to listen to. It's just Chris narrating but he is so good to listen to, keeps you engaged and the book is packed with insights. There are tasks to try out at the end of the chapter and I believe that even implementing a few of the changes discussed will have a huge positive impact on ones life. I have since bought the book on Kindle to go through it again so I can make notes and try all the tasks (as I usually am listening to books while doing another activity where I can't make notes).

Thank you Chris and keep up the great work!

Oh and I'm now listening to another of his books - Hyper Focus - which so far is also really good.

Loved it - except the chapter on sleep

I've read a lot of the books on ideas covered in The Productivity Project. Although I always try to implement the parts I think will have most effect, it was great to see someone unbiased trying these things wholeheartedly. I have actually implemented some of the ideas (especially around food and exercise) and am finding they make enough benefit to make them worth sticking with.

My only complaint was the section on sleep - the idea of 'just go to bed early enough, avoid caffeine and blue light before bed'. A nice idea, but for someone who often wakes up with 'whizzy head' at 1 am, I'd have liked some strategies on switching my brain off!

Excellent book!

The only productivity book you will ever need to read! I've read a few now, but there's something about Chris, and his enthusiasm for the subject, that is not just convincing but also logical. He backs up his processes in such an intuitive way, it would be difficult to fault it.

Some old and new ideas nicely wrapped up

The author presents some old and new ideas in an entertaining way. The countless references to his experience during the project and meetings with prominent people are a little bit too much. The challenges (tasks for the reader) presented throughout the book are rated according to various criteria like time, focus required or fun, but I suggest to delete these ratings as they only waste the listener's time.
