About this listen
Meet the true face of British justice.
Nazir Afzal knows a thing or two about justice. As a Chief Prosecutor, it was his job to make sure the most complex, violent and harrowing crimes made it to court and that their perpetrators were convicted. From the Rochdale sex ring to the earliest prosecutions for honour killing and modern slavery, Nazir was at the forefront of the British legal system for decades.
But his story begins in Birmingham, in the '60s, as a young boy facing racist violence and the tragic death of a young family member - and it’s this that sets him on the path to his groundbreaking career and which enables him to help communities that the conventional justice system ignores, giving a voice to the voiceless.
A memoir of struggle and survival, as well as crime and punishment, The Prosecutor is both a searing insight into the justice system and a powerful story of one man’s pursuit of the truth.

Best book I’ve ever read
After being too busy to read, listening to an audio book seemed like a good way to start again. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it, but I LOVED it. It’s safe to say that this is the best book I’ve ever read, and I’m sure I’ll listen to it again! With every case he describes, you’re able to picture it vividly in your mind, and become aware of issues you might not have considered before.

Interesting insight
This was a real eye opener knowing nothing of the justice system. Fascinating and binged in two days. My only criticism is that in some chapters Nazir read hurriedly, like he was on “Just a minute”, which gave the impression he was wanting to get the recording over with. All the same I would recommend this book.

An admirable account
Loved this book. I don't read many autobiographical works, but I am so glad to have read this. It's an inspirational story, tackling difficult subject matter directly and sensitively.
I loved the author's reading, which was done with feeling. It added to the story. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Amazing
I have looked up to and been in awe of Nazir Afzal since I first heard him speak at a conference. To listen to his amazing story and learn from him the morals and principles which drive him and have shaped in is inspirational. Thank you for sharing your story, for all you have done and all you continue to do for others. You are a voice that is heard and use this voice with power!
