Summary

Doing well with money isn’t necessarily about what you know. It’s about how you behave. And behavior is hard to teach, even to really smart people.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together.

In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money and teaches you how to make better sense of one of life’s most important topics.

Not an academic treatise

Easy to engage with and some elements that can be applied to you own behaviours. Yes it’s got a US reader bias but it’s simple enough to look past this. The narrator was engaging and as it’s not too long you can get through it without getting lost in longer and more weighty academic works. A good introduction to the topic.

Enjoyed it from start to finish

I've made most of the mistakes the author warns people against in this book and trying to make up for it now. But have encouraged my daughter to read this so that she didn't do the same.

Priceless perspectives

Not a 'how-to' finance book in the traditional sense - more of a why-to. 20 short, story-driven independent chapters make this easy to digest. Excellent narration too

Really enjoyed this audio book.

I wouldn’t call it psychology but otherwise the book is excellent.
It is also a bit scary that the author in 2020 predicts a bear market soon (which is now happening) and also in the last paragraph hints that the existing people’s mentality and expectations might lead to major events such as a war (which is now happening).
