Summary

Easter, as the last snows melt on the Swedish island of Öland, Per Morner is preparing for his children’s visit. But his plans are soon disrupted when he receives a phone call from his estranged father, Jerry, begging him for help. In his blazing woodland studio, Per finds Jerry close to death. He’s been stabbed and two dead bodies have been discovered alongside him in the burnt-out building. The only suspect, Jerry’s work partner, is confirmed dead in the fire. But why does Jerry insist his colleague is still alive? And why does he think he’s still a threat to his life?

When Jerry dies in hospital a few days later Per becomes determined to find out what really happened. But the closer he gets to the truth the more danger he finds himself in. And nowhere is more dangerous than the nearby quarry...

The brilliant Johan Theorin .

Would you listen to The Quarry again? Why?

Yes . Need his other books on audible.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The old man . But they all make for a great book .

Which scene did you most enjoy?

All of them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

Please read or listen to Johan Theorins books . He & Nesbo are my favourite Scandinavian authors . He's not as prolific as Jo Nesbo & writes very differently but he is also a master of his art . Only sad that just 2 of his 4 books are available on audible. Can't wait for the new book that I've pre-ordered to read .

An enchanting book with a dark side

I've just finished this book after reading a review on a Scandanavian book review site, and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. It is beautifully written and paints a vivid picture of life on a rural island in Sweden. The characters are believeable and Johan Theorin successfully manages to interweave the plot with their personal lives which actually makes you care about what happens to them. I also really liked the references to folklore and elves, in fact it made me wish that elves really did exist!! There are plenty of subplots to keep you guessing to the end, it is enhanced by the excellent narration (and voice) of Nigel Anthony and I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone.

Not a thriller

I think the book description is misleading in that I thought it would be first and foremost a crime thriller/whodunit., and it isn't really. The crime story runs all the way through, but really this book is about a set of characters and their stories and relationships and connections with each other, and they are well written so that you care about them and what will become of them. This it's a great book, but not an edge of your seat thriller if that's what you're hoping for. Nigel Anthony is wonderful of course -I found this title by searching for him as I love his narration.

Mind numbing

I genuinely have no idea what the purpose of this book is. I read a review that suggested the book was merely a narration of a number of characters, I would suggest that is the best and most positive comment that can be made.
