Summary

The second novel in the Queen's Thief series. Forsaken by the gods and left to his own devices, Eugenides, Royal Thief of Eddis, summons all his wit and wiles in an attempt to conquer the rival queen of Attolia.

Revenge...

When Eugenides, the Thief of Eddis, stole Hamiathes' Gift, the queen of Attolia lost more than a mythical relic. She lost face. Everyone knew that Eugenides had outwitted and escaped her. To restore her reputation and reassert her power, the queen of Attolia will go to any length and accept any help that is offered...she will risk her country to execute the perfect revenge.

...but...

Eugenides can steal anything. And he taunts the queen of Attolia, moving through her strongholds seemingly at will. So Attolia waits, secure in the knowledge that the Thief will slip, that he will haunt her palace one too many times.

...at what price?

When Eugenides finds his small mountain country at war with Attolia, he must steal a man, he must steal a queen, he must steal peace. But his greatest triumph—and his greatest loss—comes in capturing something that the queen of Attolia thought she had sacrificed long ago....

Great Story and Narration

Just stumbled across this series and will be certainly be listening out for more of them. Wonderfully vivid story brought to life by the brilliant narration from Owen Findlay

Enthralling listen

Slowing the narration speed to 90% improved the listening experience for me, allowing the narrator's performance to shine. The characters came to life beautifully and the pace of the plot was just right. Have not read any other books in this series yet, but that didn't spoil my enjoyment - the story stood up on its own.

Marvellous stuff

A thoroughly satisfying expansion of the world of The Thief; knockout performance from Owen Findley, who is one of VERY VERY FEW male narrators who performs women and girls with empathy and realism, rather than defaulting to some degree of camp pastiche.

Great, but another victim of the speed issue

I don't know at what stage of production this issue comes in, but it's the second audiobook I've got from audible that needs to be played at 0.9x speed to sound right. it's uncomfortable to listen to until I adjust it, so if you're struggling that could be why.
