About this listen

"The Raven" is an appropriately supernatural poem for the Halloween period. First published in 1845, it has long been a favorite of Edgar Allan Poe enthusiasts.

Expertly voiced by Phillip J. Mather, this performance brings a musicality to the language of the poem, luring the listener into the desolate scene and keeping him spellbound as the tale unfolds.

Hilariously bad.

This is one of my favourite poems, ruined by a plummy-voiced hack with no sense of meter. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, and gave up half the way through. Nevermore!
