Summary

At the end of the fourth year of the Crisis Era, Yun Tianming, riddled with cancer, chose to end his life. But death for Yun Tianming is merely the first step in a journey that will place him on the front line of a war that has raged since the beginning of time.

As Yun Tianming lay dying, his brain was extracted from his body, flash frozen, put aboard a spacecraft and launched on a trajectory to intercept the Trisolarian First Fleet. It was a desperate plan. But there was an infinitesimal chance that one day Tianming may, somehow, send valuable information back to Earth. And so he does. But not before he succumbed to subjective centuries of alien torture and betrayed humanity.

Rewarded with a cloned body by the Trisolarans, Tianming has spent millennia in exile as a traitor to the human race. But now he has a chance at redemption. A being calling itself The Spirit recruits him to help wage war against a foe that threatens the existence of the entire universe. But Tianming refuses to be a pawn again. He has his own plans....

Dull

This fan fiction story starts really well and the first third tidies up the three body trilogy quite nicely, but then it goes off on an incomprehensible tangent, exploring theoretical possibilities governing the structure, history and future of the universe in great depth via tedious conversations between non-human life forms... unfortunately this is irrepressibly dull and two hours from the end I finally gave up.

Rubbish

Absolute nonsense fanfiction which detracts from the original trilogy. Do not buy, not worth it at all.

Russian doll of nonsense fan fiction

Good potential, but ultimately a waste of time. Shame, could have been a good addition to the universe.

it's clear that it is a fanfiction

It wasn't the intention of the author to get published as part of the Canon. For a fanfiction, it is a good one, and quite creative. But as a published book, there are a lot of issues. The mains one for me are : 1) too much exposition. The dialogues are mostly exposition dumps that feel unnatural. 2) the themes of the original trilogy are not respected. In this book, you have literal chosen ones and super beings, while the original books were about how groups of people making decisions are affecting the whole universe and how a single person decision doesn't have that much of an impact. 3) the female characters are completely under developed and always sexualised. I had the same issues with the 2 last books from the trilogy, but in this one it is even worse. It seems that the only thing that a female character is capable of thinking is how much she is in love with the lead man. They are so boring and useless. And everytime the author needs to provide some comments about the physical appearance of each female character (human or otherwise). It is even more daunting when it is narrated by a middle aged man. I was so done by the end of the book!

Haven’t even finished it but already in love with it!!

I absolutely love this book. This is only the second review I have written on Audible and I have listened to a ridiculous amount of books!! I adore the 3 Body Problem trilogy and this book just filled my head and heart with such warmth! The possibilities out there are endless and this book explored some of them so beautifully ❤️

Silly book

Did the author of the original trilogy really approve this book? In my opinion it doesn’t even begin to compare. As a previous reviewer has already mentioned, the first third or so is probably just about ok (although I think it demeans & detracts from the image of the Trisolarans established by Cixin Liu). But the author should have stopped writing at that point because thereafter it rapidly degenerates into a stream of self-indulgent nonsense which rambles on for far too long before abruptly culminating in a highly contrived ending. I’ve read the original trilogy twice and rate all three books very highly. I shan’t be listening to this one again. I find the high number of positive reviews here utterly bizarre.

unnecessary sequel

author has no style unlike lui cixin just seems to be ticking boxes to write fan fiction in order to produce the ending he would like to see and dropping in easter eggs like HHGG. not worthy of calling this 3 body 4.0 the trilogy needs no more

Amazing additional to one of the best scifi series ever

Truly a worthy expansion to the universe of the Three-Body Problem. I hope the author keeps it up. I listened to whole audiobook at literally one go. Couldn't stop. Highly recommended.

That was fanstastic

What a great wrap up to the first 3 books. Definitely recommend it if you enjoyed the previous ones.
