Great start, horrible ending. It feels like christian propaganda and was really hard to listen to at the end

It’s sad the book ended the way it did, it could’ve been 4 or 5 star. The author is somewhat unbiased throughout the book and even mentions arguments of both sides and exciting history throughout the ages.

Ive spoken to a handful of people who’s taken mushrooms or psychedelics and it seems like the author is just claiming to have tried it without having actually tried it.
More to have an argument like hey look guys drugs bad, careful of the devils weed!! While I agree we need to be careful with these substances and perhaps looking into the errors if the past for a better tomorrow as well its a sad truth about human sacrifice which should not be glossed over or praised; the author takes a weird 180 towards the end going from informed, logical, openminded, and philosophical to a narrow narrative of fear mongering and praise of Christ and christian values.

He goes on a rant about suddenly abortion politics, feminism, communism and fascism ?? Like out of nowhere. He talks as if the christians didn’t do anything wrong throughout history and from what i remember straight up lies when it comes to the advancement of civilization praising christianity and saying our civilization didn’t use drugs to develop. It feels the very least contradictory to what they say earlier in the book, and it’s almost as if they got cold feet and took an 180 out of fear wether they will get into heaven or not for being a good christian.

The contradictions is astonishing also how he downplays people feeling enlightened wanting peace, and love for one another and being in tune with their surroundings, then paints it as a bad thing and hinting towards them being almost possessed. Like logic and, fear, yes fear being a good thing?? I wonder what makes the author cherry pick the words of the bible and easily glossing over other parts of the bible, and mass killings of the innocent. Especially how they glossed over the gospel of thomas calling it heretical (yet hides behind talking like they pretend to be unbiased). Their true colors and intent showed towards the end. It’s sad, but I’ll give it a 2 star since The history lessens and philosophical questions were intriguing.

I hope in the future they can keep an open mind instead of trying to bend history to their will and illusions to paint the picture they see fit. Perhaps it’s difficult as we humans are all biased to some degree.
Thank you nonetheless for the history lessons, but i cant help but feel cheated and need to do my own research since it was passed with such bias.
