Summary

Every jury has a leader, and the verdict belongs to him. In Biloxi, Mississippi, a landmark tobacco trial with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake begins routinely, then swerves mysteriously off course. The jury is behaving strangely, and at least one juror is convinced he's being watched. Soon they have to be sequestered. Then a tip from an anonymous young woman suggests she is able to predict the jurors' increasingly odd behaviour. Is the jury somehow being manipulated, or even controlled? If so, by whom? And, more importantly, why?

Great Book

Really enjoyed The Runaway Jury. Despite not being particularly interested in law, I was captivated

Mind Blowing

What an amazing story. Told in his own inimitable style. Even the difficult to understand legal bits were enthralling. I don’t know what JG thought of the film but listening to this book, years after reading it, confirmed to me that I really do prefer listening to watching.

A compelling legal drama

When a potentially ground-breaking libel case is brought against the seemingly un-beatable tobacco corporations of America, a game of politics, bribes and coercion plays out alongside a gruelling trial.
Runaway Jury balances the stories of the trial, the jury, and the underhanded tactics employed by various parties to manipulate the Jury and their outcome, and also manipulate the manipulators. it's never quite clear who's in control but details unfold and secrets are revealed ad the trial becomes more contentious and heated. There's a lot going on, with a lot of characters with their own ambitions and motivations, but it never becomes confusing to follow.
The laconic narration of the audiobook suits the story being told, and this part thriller, part procedural court-based drama is engaging throughout.

An excellent plot

This was really quite compelling. No horrible murders but gripping all the same. A really good listen.

A story from the glory days of John Grisham. Compelling, intriguing, and with characters you feel emotion for. The reading is perfect, beautifully placed, completely immerses you in the narrative.
