Summary
As the countdown to Mma Makutsi��s wedding begins, all is not as it should be at the No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. While investigating unpleasant occurrences on a southern cattle-post, Mma Ramotswe, always on the side of the weak against the strong, has reason to reflect on Rule No. 3 of The Principles of Private Detection: never lie to the client. Apprentice mechanic Charlie seems to be avoiding certain important responsibilities.
And as Mma Makutsi’s big day approaches, her nemesis Violet Sephotho is casting her net wider: by standing for election which could spell trouble for the entire nation. But as friends and family gather under starry African night skies, it turns out that even the most perplexing of apparitions - and the most shocking of crimes - may yield to rational explanation. An easy feel-good read
This was a very predictable but still very pleasant book in the series. It had nothing particulary new or thought provoking about it, but then this series is not meant to make you think deeply but to make you feel warm inside as the wrongs of this part of Botswana are made right by an unlikely detective and her associate. The people are mostly likeable , there is as always a happy ending and you leave feeling an urge to pack your bags and visit Ma Ramotswe's country that she loves so much.

Another great book
I have been an Alexander McCall Smith fan for many years and Mma Ramotswe never fails to give me a most enjoyable read. A great combination of mystery, amusement and heart warming moments. The lives of those at the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency and the adjoining garage are written in a sensitive and wry style which brings a smile every time I listen. This next instalment is well worth a read.

Another delicious African adventure
I LOVE LOVE, LOVE Ms Adjoa Andoh's narration. I can see Jill Scott's Mma Ramotswe going about her work with wisdom and grace. An absolute joy for this homesick African to visit the savannahs and dream of a red of stars. Off to download the next one! Yippee! ❤️❤️❤️

Classic No.1 Ladies Detective Agency
I love the way Adjoa Andoh reads these stories. The series now contains a dozen books, and they are all equally entertaining. A thoroughly enjoyable and light-hearted read.

I love the voices that Adjoa Andoh supplies for these books. the best audio books are read by actors who perform them.

Enjoyable story but disappointing performance
If you got this far in the series, you're probably already in love with McCall Smith's gentle stories of human interaction and frailties. I found the performance very disappointing, however, to the extent that I might give up on the rest of the series. On Audible.com, the wonderful Lisette Lecat (sp?) gives a fabulous interpretation, but her series is unfortunately not available here. By comparison, Adjoa Andoh's characters have high-pitched, squeaky voices and irritating vocal mannerisms. You can't ever take poor Charlie seriously with such a voice. Her performance lacks both regional inflection and musicality, and some pronunciations are plain wrong. I hope to find a way of accessing the Lecat series, maybe while travelling.
