Summary
The Scarifyers is a series of rip-roaring tales of comedic supernatural intrigue set in 1930s Britain, distilling the likes of Dick Barton, the Avengers, The Devil Rides Out and Quatermass into cracking new audio adventures. The Scarifyers is broadcast on BBC Radio 4 Extra, and has been described in the national press as 'rollicking good fun', 'a slice of audio perfection', 'the smartest and most enjoyable thing on British radio' and 'like Tintin but with the lights out.
'This is the fourth Scarifyers adventure. Sir Basil Champion (Brian Blessed) is the world's worst explorer. In a career that has seen him lost in the Kalahari, captured by pygmies, and held captive for two-and-a-half years in a pit of rabid guinea fowl, it seems his luck can get no worse - until he is eaten by a rhinoceros. Some weeks after his unlikely demise, MI-13 is called upon to investigate a mysterious outbreak of the Black Death - at a Chelsea solicitor's during the reading of Sir Basil's will...
Has Sir Basil's legendary bad luck reached out from beyond the grave, or is there a more sinister explanation? And what is the connection with his ill-fated Egyptian expedition fourteen years earlier? Lionheart (Nicholas Courtney) and Dunning (Terry Molloy) must journey from London to the highlands of Scotland and the lost tombs of Egypt, to uncover the truth behind Champion's death... and the Curse of the Black Comet.

Brilliant!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Scarifyers: The Curse of the Black Comet to be better than the print version?
Well, that rather goes without saying.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I enjoyed all of it. It's a great yarn in the style of the times it is set in.
Any additional comments?
I am always wary of downloading BBC comedy. Sometimes, it can be pretty dire. However, this series is extremely well-written and well-acted (well over-acted at times). What other series can boast a guest star of the likes of Brian Blessed? I enjoy Nicholas Courtney, though I do prefer David Warner. Again, I am impressed by the quality of the actors taking part in this series.
It is not laugh-out-loud funny, but it isn't meant to be. I just smiled all the way through, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Best Adventure Yet
Fourth adventure in, and it's a laugh out loud, innuendo filled romp. The addition of Brian Blessed makes for lots of chuckles and bellowing. I'm loving these radio comedies.

Best of British
Excellent script delivered by a great cast. Nicholas Courtney will be sadly missed. Would have loved to have seen this on screen.

Endearingly daft
Great vocal performances as always, and an endearingly daft plot. I think this is the story in the series that made me laugh the most.
