Summary

The heir to Martina Cole’s crown with a story of murder, the underworld, violence and treachery.

It’s 1983 and Stephanie Crouch’s life is dull. She is desperate to escape the run-down, pokey council house she shares with her overbearing family, but at fourteen years old she has nowhere to go.

When Stephanie meets East End wide-boy Barry, his cockney charm and quick tongue soon have her head over heels in love. Finally Stephanie feels like her dreary life is on the up. But too young to control their fate, Stephanie and Barry are torn apart when he is whisked away to Spain by his family. Lonely and heartbroken Stephanie turns to Barry’s childhood friend Wayne for comfort, and their friendship soon blossoms into romance, leaving Barry fuming and promising revenge....

,P>Ten years later Barry returns to England. Within one month Stephanie's happy world with Wayne is turned upside down. People immediately start to point the finger of accusation at Barry, but is he the one to blame? Or, should Stephanie look elsewhere to find the schemer who has ruined her life?

Couldn't stop listening!!

listened to the whole thing in just a few days, so intense with some shocking twists! Emotive and a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Very disruptive so you can literally picture each character and the accents/voices are portrayed brilliantly!

Best yet ,

A brilliant plot and full of twists right up until the end.
Annie Aldington is my favorite narrator and I even choose books because of her.

BRILLIANT

A really good read.
One of the best I've read in 2017.
Kimberly's books never fail to entertain and narrated by Annie, you couldn't ask for better.

Intriguing.

Was not sure what to expect from this book, but found it drew me into the story and I was always reluctant to stop reading for any reason and could not wait to get back again.

Beautifully read by Annie Aldington, who (to my ears) reproduced local accents perfectly.

I hope there is a sequel to listen to because I really want to know what happened to all the characters after!

A Greate Listen!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the book. The story was well thought out with a nice twist and unexpected ending! I have to admit that at times I found the story a bit slow and the characters were very repetitive in their behaviour, which at times I found irritating and thought certain scenes could have been cut out, I still highly recommend the book!!

Brilliant story from Kimberley Chambers!

This story was non-stop drama to the end with an outstanding narrator. Had to force myself to stop listening! It was like listening to one of the best soap operas. Great characters, Eastend humour and that twist at the end!...
