About this listen
When Sergeant George Watters is assigned to a scuttling case, he thinks he can solve it in a few days. Instead, he discovers a connection to a string of burglaries of high-value shops and hotels across Dundee.
Things take a turn for the worse when one of Watters' informants tells him that someone from the police force is involved in the burglaries. Soon, George realizes that the mystery runs deeper than he expected.
Can Watters solve the case and bring the burglars, and their accomplices, to justice?
Set in Scotland’s fourth-largest city in the 1860s, The Scuttlers is the fourth book in Malcolm Archibald’s Detective Watters Mysteries series.

What a revelation - really enjoyed it
I am starting this series at book 4 so not sure on the backstory but I easily got into it.
Completely new set up to me - location and time period. When I started I never thought I would get so engrossed in learning what scuttling is and whale killing (so glad that no longer happens), the story and narration just kept me so engrossed that I have gone straight onto book 5.
I felt for Marie, loved the references to the golfing policeman. It all worked so well and just loved it. The narration really suited the characters.

Loved it.
This is the first book in the series I have listened to and although book 4 it does well as a stand alone. Sergeant Waters is involved in numerous cases throughout the book or so it appears, Burglary, Scuttling, Insurance fraud? all go to make a most entertaining listen. All the cases and some of the characters are based on true cases that happened in Dundee and area in the 19th century. Grant Loves narration is great and really helps to bring the book to life. I am now halfway through book 5 in the series and am enjoying it just as much as this one.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the narrator and leave this honest review.
