Summary

Australia, 1946: 650 brides are departing for England to meet the men they married in wartime. But instead of the luxury liner they were expecting, they find themselves aboard an aircraft carrier, alongside a thousand men.

On the sun-baked decks, old loves and past promises become distant memories, and tensions are stretched to the limit as brides and husbands change their minds. And for Frances Mackenzie, it soon becomes clear that the journey is more important than the destination....

A Gentle Sory

A very reflective book. Easy for the reader to imagine themselves travelling on that ship with the same turmoils.

Simply beautiful

I simply loved this book. The characters were so real and the story was fantastic. I felt completely submerged in the story and was frustrated every time my journey cane to an end and I had to stop listening. Fantastic book and highly recommended!

Fave audio book so far

The narrator was superb, hats off to her for all the different dialects and voices she used.
Not hugely exciting but it was well written and never boring.

Loved the detailed story, the range of realistic and believable characters. Really interesting subject. It took me there and gave me a delightful insight into a real situation.

Loved this book

Listened to this book on my daily walk with the dog. Enjoyed every minute……so did the dog as her walks became longer every day due to the fact that I couldn’t stop listening.
All the characters where so believable and getting to know them was a joy. Once finished I had to go back and read parts of the book again as I didn’t want to let go!
