Summary

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Thomas Harris’ legendary best-seller, Audible presents The Silence of the Lambs, with a new introduction written and read by the author himself.

An FBI trainee. A psychopath locked up for unspeakable crimes. And a serial killer getting ever closer to his latest victim...

Seeking insight into the deadly madman she must find, FBI rookie Clarice Starling turns to Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a monster cannibal held in a hospital for the criminally insane. As Dr. Lecter invites Clarice into the darkest chambers of his mind, he forces her to confront her own childhood demons in return for knowledge; an unspeakable tuition he exacts to teach her how the monster thinks. But time is running out…

An instant classic of chilling psychological suspense, The Silence of the Lambs will take you from the tormenting words of a homicidal maniac and the flesh-rending depravity of an elusive killer to the sheer courage of a young FBI novice, who risks her life to track him down and stop the bloodshed.

A native of Mississippi, Thomas Harris began his writing career covering crime in the United States and Mexico, and was a reporter and editor for the Associated Press in New York City. His first novel, Black Sunday, was published in 1975, followed by Red Dragon in 1981, The Silence of the Lambs in 1988, Hannibal in 1999, and Hannibal Rising in 2006.

All the Hannibal Lecter books have been made into films, most notably starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster. Sky has also produced a television series based on the notorious mass murderer, starring Mads Mikkelsen, Laurence Fishburne and Hugh Dancy.

"The best book I've read in a very long time. Subtle, horrific and splendid" (Roald Dahl)

Brilliant<br />

We've all seen the film, and probably read the book, so expectations are high. This gripping thriller, exquisitely read, never disappoints. Highly recommended.

Brilliant

Loved it. Have read before, but never listened. The intro from Harris is very good. The narrator has a brilliant voice - though occasionally you hear noises and echos behind him.

compellingly narrated

I can't say I loved it...that would be weird! but it was gripping and the narrator made it as creepy as needed.

Even more amazing on Audible!

I’ve read this book many times before. But this was the first time I listened to an audio version. It was amazing! I listened every time I got into the car and it made my journey to work each day a thrilling experience. I found myself holding back in the car to finish a chapter, on more than one occasion. The book was read very well. And the atmosphere was created exceptionally. It was a shame when the story ended. I will definitely listen to again. I very much enjoyed this.

A book you won’t want to finish.

I had told I would enjoy this book. I didn’t expect to. I though I would be too heavy, gory even.
How wrong could I be. I could not leave it. It had my gripped from the first minute. The narrator made it his own. Obviously I could see in my mind the actors from the film. But it was his voice, his interpretation of the characters. It gave new life to a story I new from 20+ years ago.
If your looking for a good listen, that removes you to another place for hours at a time. Then this is the one for you.
It is gone and definitely finished. But it won’t be forgotten.

A good 'read', the best in the Lecter series.

About the best in the series of Hannibal Lecter books. However, I still prefer dramatisations of books. A full cast dramatisation tends to hold the listeners attention more.

So you've watched the film a zillion times,............still read the book!

A favourite film I have watched so many times, I also read this novel in paperback over 10 years ago. So I questioned my judgement a tad in buying this audible book. Would this be overkill......?, please excuse the pun!

Frankly this presentation is superb. Great writing and brilliant narrator. This is an original audible recording but is of excellent quality. The 25th anniversary introduction by the narrator was a fantastic start to the book.

Loved it from start to finish. Hannibal Lector is done in an Anthony Hopkins style and other characters too reminded me of the film. This in no way detracted from the novel, it added to the experience.

This is one worth listening to, no matter how many times you have seen the film (which incidentally, is pretty true to the novel).

Worth a whole credit!
