About this listen
The sixth in the series of the classic fantasy tales – The Chronicles of Narnia. Read by the unforgettable Sir Michael Hordern.
“Quick!” said Eustace. “Hold hands! We mustn’t get separated!” And before Jill quite knew what was happening, he had pulled her out of the door, out of the school grounds, out of England, out of our whole world into That Place.
Eustace and Jill are whisked to the land of Narnia where Aslan, the great Lion, needs their help to find the missing Prince Rilian, Caspian’s beloved son. The search takes them through some of the most dangerous underland of Narnia, and into the path of an evil enchantress who has dire plans for the prince…
This is the sixth adventure in the exciting Chronicles of Narnia.

A Silver Story
Grand reading from Michael Hordern.
Alan's theme was enchanting.
The music which played when Kill was the Narnians was lovely and cheery; fitting for a nice day on some far land.
Trillion misleading Glimfeather tickled me.
The theme of the Green Witch and her serpent form got me; chilling, fitting her cunning and coldness.
Middleton got me. A loveable one.
The scene when Kill realised her mistake s got me.
The giant chase got me. So thrilling. And Michael Hordern's narrating helped.
A grand legend.

The best Narnia audiobooks - accept no substitute
What did you like most about The Silver Chair?
It is one of my favourite Narnia stories because the character of Puddleglum is brilliant and the story balances mystery, humour and darkness so well.
What does Sir Michael Hordern bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Michael Hordern's reading is the best performance of any Narnia audiobook, he is master and reads with perfect emphasis and gravitas. His voice is unforgettable and adds a sense of timelessness.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I have read and listened to this book hundreds of times since childhood, it has made me laugh and kept my attention all these years. I am so happy that Audible stocks is so that I can keep it in my library and take it wherever I go.
Any additional comments?
I also love the rest of this series, performed by Michael Hordern with music composed especially by harpist Marisa Robles. The music adds a whole new dimension of otherworldly beauty, light and fear. I love it so much I also bought the album, I believe it is called The Narnia Suite.

Great story
This is a lovely story and Sir Michael Horden read it well. However it didn’t need the music which was intrusive and at times drowned the narration.

Great story, shame about the background music.
We loved the story but the 'background' music made it unbearable at points. It was overpowering and louder than the story at points making listening very difficult.
