Summary

Co-written by one of the UK's leading counter-terrorism experts, The Sleep of Reason is a tense and compelling thriller about toxic politics and the radicalisation of young men.

A brutal massacre at a theme park leaves eight dead and triggers a wave of extremist violence across Britain.

On the trail of the killer is Detective Superintendent Sophie Gabriel, who must confront her past as she races to stop rival Islamist and neo-Nazi terror groups bringing a deadly campaign of violence to Britain's streets.

As community tensions rise, the Coalition Government appear to be exploiting the crisis for their own ends. In the midst of a political and media whirlwind, Gabriel and her team must stop a ruthless terrorist attack that could leave hundreds dead.

Gripping and written from a perspective of real knowledge

I thoroughly recommend this audio book as a compelling and life like tale of modern times.

Hard hitting and written from a position of professional knowledge.

If, like me, you ‘don’t do fiction’ this is the book for you.

On the edge of your seat

I actually really enjoyed this. Gave an insight into just how hard police work and how difficult it can be. I felt like I learned a lot from this book.

Decent thriller, poorly read

It's a police procedural and does that job well enough. No characters seem to have more than fleeting back stories so it doesn't emotionally link you into the characters but the plot works. The reader however kills any excitement - pauses at the end of each sentence and minimal variation in voice. I had to keepbacktracking to find out who was talking as they all sounded the same. Would read a follow-up but not on Audible unless they change the reader.
