Summary

Bloomsbury presents The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, read by Frazer Douglas.

The international sensation.

Winner of the Orange Women's Prize for Fiction.

A Sunday Times and New York Times best seller.

Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the court of King Peleus and his perfect son, Achilles. Despite their differences, Achilles befriends the shamed prince, and as they grow into young men skilled in the arts of war and medicine, their bond blossoms into something deeper - despite the displeasure of Achilles' mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess. But when word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped, Achilles must go to war in distant Troy and fulfil his destiny. Torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus goes with him, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they hold dear.

Brilliant

I loved listening to Circe and I loved listening to this. Such a moving story and so interesting to hear all about the Greek mythology. I'm going to re-listen now and I urge you to listen too!

Sublime

Such a enchantingly written queer love story. It holds all the wonder and awe of Ancient Greece

Wonderful

The most beautiful book I have read. The prose is so lyrical and descriptive. I dare anyone not to love this book. Also the narrator has done a brilliant job of telling the story.

A Beautiful story

beautifully written tale, so much more than I was expecting. I will never remember the story of achilles the same again.

Little bit overrated

I found the book hard to read as I was so bored! I couldn’t connect to the characters until about chapter 30. I did like the ending though.

Loved it

Absolutely loved it!! Really gripping and an unusual yet beautiful love story amongst the action. Not one for love stories but I thoroughly enjoyed it all. This author really grips me, love her style of writing. If you enjoy this also check out her other book Circe which is also brilliant.

Romance and battle

Good performance from the narrator. Detailed story with mythological characters that bring you to the Trojan war and the romantic story of Achilles and Petroclus. There is battle, fame and honour with sacrifices to Gods that leave you a bitter taste of how things could have been back in time.

So gooooood

Surprising listening to a story you think you know told so uniquely. This is a truly beautiful, moving, flowing epic, I listened to Circe first which I also adored, both read wonderfully too.
