Summary

After more than twenty years away from the law, Joe Hennessy is forced back into the courtroom.

Trying to save his vineyard after years of drought, Hennessy returns to practice in Charleston, South Carolina–the city he walked away from after the murder of his ten-year-old son.

When one of South Carolina’s most powerful men is charged with possessing stolen artwork, Hennessy steps forward to defend him. But as Hennessy digs into the evidence, as he navigates the truth, he finds that the criminal charges are only the start of their problems…

Despite his full workload, Hennessy takes on the defense of a young woman charged with stabbing her ex-boyfriend in a violent rage. As he prepares for the trial, he discovers there’s more to the case than is presented by the prosecution.

While the cases twist and turn, Hennessy fights to prove that both clients are innocent. But to expose the truth, he must take one of the most dangerous risks of his life.

Can he ensure that justice triumphs? Or will the cases send him to an early grave?

Court room drama

Really enjoyed this book. Will definitely listen to the other two books by this author

High hopes

Let me start by saying the narrator was superb. His character voices were a thing of beauty and he helped make a mediocre story pretty decent. The story had all the bones to be a great story and in places it wasn’t bad. But I had the feeling the whole way through that there was something missing. Story development incomplete, twists and turns left out and a feeling that the author missed writing a really good story. I will look for other books with Bradford Hastings he really was excellent

Brilliant!

Great new discovery for me, live courtroom dramas. Narration was terrific too, can’t wait for next one

Spoilt by the awful character accents

The story and plot are good. The main narration is good and gets you believing quickly...then comes the diabolical attempts at the Australian and Jamaican accents. Surely someone would have reviewed the narration? These accents are highly irritating. Would have better to adjust the characters than to use an accent that is nothing better than random.

Pretty slow-moving and some painful narration

Still listening to the book, it’s very slow and I can’t see it picking up much in the last few chapters.

Narrator is great, less for a agonisingly painful Irish/Dorset/South African-influenced Aussie accent, which fortunately doesn’t show up too often (it’s truly awful - it hits vaguely Australian once every 25 or so words) and a very poor Jamaican accent - indescribable unless you listen to it for yourself.

I don’t think I’ll carry on with this series - regardless of the narration it is a dull listen.

Disappointed

I had high expectations, but found the story to be a bit contrived and the characters a bit unrealistic. I liked the overall story arc, but felt a bit let down by the way some of the narrative played out. I don’t think I will continue with the series.
