Summary
The Spider King's Daughter is a modern-day Romeo and Juliet set against the backdrop of a changing Lagos, a city torn between tradition and modernity, corruption and truth, love and family loyalty.
Seventeen-year-old Abike Johnson is the favourite child of her wealthy father. She lives in a sprawling mansion in Lagos, protected by armed guards and ferried everywhere in a huge black jeep. But being her father's favourite comes with uncomfortable duties, and she is often lonely behind the high walls of her house.
A world away from Abike's mansion, in the city's slums, lives a 17-year-old hawker struggling to make sense of the world. His family lost everything after his father's death, and now he runs after cars on the roadside selling ice cream to support his mother and sister.
When Abike buys ice cream from the hawker one day, they strike up an unlikely and tentative romance, defying the prejudices of Nigerian society. But as they grow closer, revelations from the past threaten their relationship, and both Abike and the hawker must decide where their loyalties lie.

Good read
This author never disappoints. Enjoyed from the beginning to the end. The twist was unexpected and found myself not wanting the only story to end.

Nigeria's Romeo & Juliet: A much better version!
Nigeria's Romeo and Juliet! I'm a little bias and would say it's a much better story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. And the shifts between the two main characters perspectives. (I am not a spoiler so don't want to give anything away). You won't be disappointed if you're looking for real-life, Rich Vs Poor, Culture and Humour.
Narrators did a great job and kept me engaged throughout.
Look forward to reading more books by Chibundu Onuzo and many other writers, whos book are African set and inspired.

Intensely Vivid, Well Paced and Intense
Thoroughly enjoyed this evenly paced, first person, dual narrative story that centers on two key protagonists that come from opposite sides of the tracks. It evokes the sights, sounds and smells of gritty Lagos as well as the often unheard of narratives of those that seldom get seen or acknowledged. Far from a love story, this is a survival story. An Eko survival story replete with sacrifice, love, revenge and hope. Authentic narration goes a long way towards making this a great retelling of a beautiful story.

Great storytelling
Definitely a writer to watch out for. Humorous tale, giving you wonderful glimpses of Lagos at both ends of the spectrum. The conclusion felt rushed and the character arcs suffered as a result, but overall a very enjoyable read!

Fantastic story, way too short
Ms Onuzo is most definitely my one of my top three authors. There is a psychology to every single character on every single book which always shows the complexity and paradox of human nature. The detail in which she writes the intrinsic thoughts of people is just so…realistic. I am never not surprised, her stories are never predictable. This book was awesome. I just wish she’s write more I cannot wait to see what else she has up her sleeve!

loved listening to this book, the narratives were spot on with the rhythm and flow. Hard not to finish in one sitting

Very moving.
The narrators were perfect. I went through every emotion, & couldn’t stop listening. There has to be a sequel.
