To stop Dowager Queen Emalda's reign of terror, Ophelia, her bonded dragon Sunny, and Corrin will need to uncover the powerful magic of the First Artifact. The key lies in the Sacred Map, a scroll that must be magically unlocked. No one knows how, and people have died trying. The trials to unlock the scroll are immense, and Ophelia will be asked to do terrible things in the name of the greater good—even possibly betraying Corrin.
Meanwhile, Corrin is determined to solidify a true alliance with the dragons. With their help, he, Ophelia, and their allies may have a fighting chance against his mother. But the dragons aren't happy to see him, and Corrin will need to prove himself if he's going to survive long enough to form an alliance.
If Ophelia and Corrin can't stop Emalda, she will use the First Artifact to gain immortality. And in the process, she will close every portal and destroy all worlds outside of Charassi for her selfish aims. But can Ophelia and Corrin make the sacrifices necessary to stop her?

Fae high king and queen battle for kingdom.
Fae high king and queen battle for kingdom.
This is the third book in the series and I would advise starting at the beginning because several plot outcomes are given away by this one. The human who bonded with the dragon king is now 18, having started the series at age 16. She is still feisty and can be fierce. The fae high prince who was trying to bond the dragon monarch is a couple of hundred years old, but fae live much longer than humans so is her equivalent age by their standards. Dragons live even longer. Because the two central dragons in the tale became soul-mates, their bonded beings were also made equivalent. Each chapter begins by announcing which character's point of view is being related. I felt this weakened the narrative flow because the high queen's and high king's stories were told in parallel even though they overlapped at times. They had an unlikely (trying to avoid giving spoilers here) duo of strong adversaries who had usurped the palace and capital city. There is a good resolution to a central storyline as we learn who is behind the "unmaking" where all manner of creatures lose their life and autonomy, yet remain active as puppets of the wicked adversary. There is also plenty of peril and action scenes which author and narrator do well. There are physical exploits as well as clever use of magic abilities. The ending is not a cliff-hanger, yet leaves the way open to continue the series.
I thought the narrator did a better job in this than the previous in distinguishing male from female and dragon from other beings.

Great!
A wonderful conclusion to the story arc! How will they save their kingdom, the dragons and themselves? Narration easy to listen to, even on sped up listening speed.

Exciting, nail-biting and emotional dragon adventure
This is an exciting, amazing, biting and tense dragon adventure. Concluding Ophelia and Corrin’s adventures. Both with their own trials to overcome in stopping Elmalda’ evil. Set in a fae realm. This story has wonderful characters as well as dragons and a human family. So enjoyable and emotional with fabulous world building. The narration is great and the story is nicely executed.
