When Fionn Boyle sets foot on Arranmore Island, it begins to stir beneath his feet ...

Once in a generation, Arranmore Island chooses a new Storm Keeper to wield its power and keep its magic safe from enemies. The time has come for Fionn’s grandfather, a secretive and eccentric old man, to step down. Soon, a new Keeper will rise.

But, deep underground, someone has been waiting for Fionn. As the battle to become the island’s next champion rages, a more sinister magic is waking up, intent on rekindling an ancient war.

Critic reviews

"The Storm Keeper's Island will blow you away.... A magical new voice in fantasy. Wise, warm and wonderful." (Eoin Colfer, author of the Artemis Fowl series)

"So magical and wild that it's like being swept away by the sea... She's taken an ancient story and found something new and bold and wild in it - I think only real bone-deep writers and storytellers do that. I can't wait for the next." (Katherine Rundell, author of The Explorer)

"Funny, dark and blazingly beautiful, The Storm Keeper's Island is a thrillingly inventive adventure." (Kiran Millwood Hargrave, author of The Girl of Ink & Stars)

What a book!!

What an incredible story! I can honestly say it's one of the best books I've listened to ever, and certainly the best so far this year. Deeply affecting, poetic, moving and poignant, it deals with subjects that are so terribly painful - family, grieve, loss, mental illness and the courage to face what life throws at you - in an unbelievably beautiful way. I've not cared about characters as I cared for these in a very long time. Don't let the fact that this is a children's book out you off. I've not regretted one drop of my ugly tears cried on the train whilst listening to this! Bravo! Hoping the next installment will be just as good as this.

A Magical Yarn.

I have only ever heard great things about this story and yet somehow have waited a very long time to read it!
Ffion and Tara’s time on Arranmore island is turned upside down when they discover who their grandfather is...
Follow them on a journey through time and memories as they have to overcome their own fears and doubts, come to terms with the loss of their father and their mother’s worsening mental health.
It’s a rip roaring yarn, that will keep you gripped.

So a brief overview

I enjoyed listening to this book because of the man reading the book and his nice voice. The story was very nice and I am quite sure that there is a second part but I don’t know being honest. Overall this is a book for 7-15 year olds because if you are over 15 this book will be “not cool” and if you are bellow 7 then maybe some of the words might be hard to understand. 5/5 in my opinion!

The most original story I can remember

I can't quite believe that this is a children's book. It's beautifully written, full of different emotions & unusual ideas. I will definitely listen to the following books.

The narrator is as good as my existing two favourite narrators - who just happen also to be Irish. They certainly are excellent storytellers.
