Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
From much loved historian Neil Oliver comes a whole new insight on our past, told through 100 remarkable, unforgettable stories.
In his brilliant and excitingly ambitious new book, Neil Oliver takes us on a whistlestop tour around the world and through a million years to give us a unique and invaluable grasp of how human history pieces together.
From the east to the west, north to south, these 100 moments act like stepping stones allowing us to make sense of how these pivotal events have shaped the world we know today.
Including many moments listeners will expect - from Genghis Khan's domination on Earth to Armstrong's first steps on the moon and from the advent of the printing press to the birth of the internet - there are also surprises, and with them, some remarkable, unforgettable stories that give a whole new insight on our past.

I found this audiobook compelling
A rare occurrence for me where the narration turned an already compelling book into an experience.

A succinct account of history in digestible bites.
This was a neat book exploring a range of historical events which the author claims had pivotal impact on the course of history.
It's not designed to go too in depth into any one topic and it's important to manage expectations in that regard.
I particularly liked the prose; there's a nice helping of poetic turns of phrase and evocative reflection on the human impact of the listed moments, all helped along with the Scottish lilt of the author who comes across as humble.
Some earlier moments didn't quite pique my interest which isn't surprising given their distance in time to a non-historian reader.
Overall, it's difficult to regret picking this up.

Nice concept ruined by authors entrenched opinions
An interesting concept for a history book with many fascinating stories from the past few millennia and ideas of how they all fit into the tapestry of humanity. The author/narrator is at pains to explain that this is purely his opinion of his hundred most important moments, which is fair enough, but the text is still ruined by his inability to not make sneering comments about anything and anyone he disagrees with politically.
Purely as a work of historical non-fiction this is a decent book but the author's opinions don't do it for me and have put me off investigating any of his other work.

Neil Oliver is my favourite historian
this was a really enjoyable audiobook and would make a great docu series. perfectly told by Mr Oliver who,in these mad times has become a voice of observational sense in an increasingly nonsensical world

Brilliant.
I really enjoyed this Audiobook. It's so well written and the authors command of prose is enviable. Neil reads it himself and this is what makes it so fascinating. He is like someone telling a story at a fireplace. Some of the chapters leave you wishing for more they are so short. I can't wait for new content from him. Thanks Neil .

Fascinating vignettes
Really wide range of key moments - some famous, some lesser known - that made a lasting impact on the world (or sometimes, presumably to broaden the spread, a particular area). His accent is a little strong and overemphasis can be irritating but I learned a lot!

Another fantastic Neil Oliver book!
Absolutely loved this, factual and interesting with just enough time dedicated to each subject. Very much like his other similar books in terms of style and format.
