About this listen

Research is anchored by assumptions. How do we complete research—and why? This book—The Three Monkeys of Research—explores epistemology, ontology and methodology. Tara Brabazon explores how ideas become knowledge, and how arguments are verified, believed and disseminated to scholars, stakeholders and citizens.

A great introduction to the ‘three wise monkeys’

As the author reports, I was looking for something to refresh my knowledge in preparation for future marking.
This is less a book and more a lecture that covers the topic in an overview but also in application.
The passion that Tara has for this is clear in the way she speaks and is infectious! I found myself holding my own in discussing epistemology in the office after listening to it today!
The only drawback is the lack of a reference list (a draw back of all audio only books) to look up the examples and quotes given and help widen my reading. While it’s relatively easy for me as an academic to find most of what Tara refers to, it’s not the same for everyone.
However, the enthusiasm and content is just what I needed at this time as a researcher, student and teacher.

Singular in delivery and impactful in content

I have found Tara Brabazon’s helpful videos and indeed this audio book to be just the no-nonsense beacon of intellectual insight I’ve been searching for in a sea of high-brow, expensive, confounding, self-important academic drivel. Highly recommended for doctoral students needing a solid, inclusive foundation.

Another diamond of knowledge sharing from T

For months I’ve been struggling with methodology epistemology and now they are so much clearer and I can apply thinking to my own research in a relevant way.

not worth your time

I did not find the title helpful at all. I would recommend looking up definitions of the three terms instead and getting more specialised listens on parts of interest. The format here is too short, and the author too busy with other discussions for there to be much philosophy in there. I wanted to like it. But I don't.
