About this listen
From Michael Wolff, author of the explosive, number one best seller Fire and Fury, comes the mesmerizing story behind the most bizarre melt-down in recent American political history.
The decline and fall of Rudy Giuliani, from “America’s Mayor” to public spectacle, has all the makings of a modern Shakespearean tragedy. Those who know Giuliani, whose tough leadership and even tougher politics helped revitalize New York City in the 1990s and lead the country through 9/11, have stood by and watched with incredulity as he put himself at the heart of impeachment charges against the President.
In The Tragedy of Rudy Giuliani, Michael Wolff uncovers just what happened to the iconoclastic former mayor, and reveals how his apparent self-destruction frames some of the great political questions of the age: How have evidently unstable people come to have such success in institutional politics? How have the mean and nasty achieved such heights in a system that has valued – insisted on – likeability and conventionality?

Pretty entertaining
Though it’s needs an update I think. It missed out The protagonists extra humiliations at the end of the presidency. What was that place they did the press conference by the porno shop and the crematorium.
Great listen tho 👍🏻

Hero to Zero
It’s a difficult thing to watch, the collapse of an individual once revered and respected around the globe. Giuliani once had an impeccable legacy: his ousting of the Five Families from New York and his response to 9/11. However, despite his regular and frequent court room losses, it’s a legacy built on sand. His hitching his star to the Trump bandwagon shows just how that legacy could so swiftly swept into the sea, is brilliantly described by Michael Wolff in this understated yet damning book. A must read for those who really have a thirst for understanding how power corrupts.

incisive story, well written and spoken
a very absorbing analysis of Giuliani's manic role in assisting Trump and himself to make money and stay central. a frightening reflection on the psychodrama of the period.

a real decline and fall....
I have all Michael Wolffs books about Donald Trump on audio and I like his style of writing and his often laugh out loud humour. This brief look at 'Americas Mayor' has uncovered a nasty piece of work in Rudy Giuliani. Some reviewers have commented on the narration and to begin with I also found Michael Wolff voice slightly off putting. However 5 minutes in and it was perfect for the writing style - as I guess it would be. The lengths that Giuliani and other major players went to and continue to go to just to hold power is is truly breathtaking. Incompetence does not get in the way of achievement and the details that are drawn out by Micheal Wolff seem more in sorrow than in anger. There is quite a lot written elsewhere about Giulianis prosecution of the Mafia in New York and of course 9/11 so he is not an unknown figure. Always ready to self promote - truthfully or not - Guilianis self-aggrandising is is very evident in this profile. Well worth a listen

Entertaining summary
Entertaining summary of Rudy’s misadventures, with an abrupt ending.
I read that this was written prior to Borat’s subsequent movie film - hopefully Wolff can write some chapters further from where this left off as Rudy’s degeneration careened on.

I’ll drink to that….
As I listened to Wolf’s ‘Landslide’ (which I highly recommend), it occurred to me that I would probably enjoy a similar book about Giuliani.
Clearly those evil algorithms that monitor our thoughts got a hold of this and produced this audiobook.
It’s focussed on Giuliani’s contributions to the Trump Shitshow and I would actually love to know more about his time as New York Mayor but it’s a great listen and I quite enjoyed something just a couple of hours long for a change.
Only reservation was that whilst Mr Wolff is a terrific writer and clearly knows his subject, he’s not a narrator. However, he does an okay job and doesn’t ruin the book.

Did I mention Rudy was overweight!?
I am beginning to wonder if Wolff may have an obesity problem of his own.
