Summary
Antoinette Conway, the tough, abrasive detective from The Secret Place, is still on the Murder Squad, but only just. She's partnered up with Stephen Moran now, and that's going well - but the rest of her working life isn't. Antoinette doesn't play well with others, and there's a vicious running campaign in the squad to get rid of her.
She and Stephen pull a case that at first looks like a slam dunk lovers' tiff, but gradually they realise there's more going on: someone on their own squad is trying to push them towards the obvious solution, away from nagging questions.
They have to work out whether this is just an escalation in the drive to get rid of her - or whether there's something deeper and darker going on.

Too long
The story was way too long - it could've lost a third of the story and been much tighter! Not that much suspense. Somewhat disappointed.

Good, but not as good as the previous ones
Any additional comments?
I have really enjoyed this series of books and have steadily worked my way through all six over the last year! Although all enjoyable, some have been better than others. I listened to book 5 and 6 back to back and 5 is much better. I didn't warm to Det Conway as much as the others.
Despite all that, I'd still recommend this book and especially the series

Gripping with excellent characters
Beautifully written and set out story, all the way to the last line. Alas, sadly the last (as at January 2019) of an excellent series of DMS books. Cannot wait for the next book.

Absolutely terrific. Listened non-stop. Tana French is an excellent author, characters are wonderfully drawn, the plot intricate, clever, never letting up. Very very good.

cracking story but . . . . <br />
. . . . cracking, great, greatly flawed central character, terrific atmosphere & well observed . . . . but it needs patience as the interviews are very 'real time' & very long. Still great though.

Absorbing and masterful
I love Tana French and have binged the entire Dublin Murder Squad series. This particular book was told from the perspective of a hilariously crass, cynical female narrator and did a powerful job of the subtlety of long-term paranoia and the narratives we can accidentally weave ourselves into. Great narrator as well. Good job on the tone and the accent.

Fabulous Dublin Murder squad
All these books have been brilliant with perfect narration. Broken Harbour was my favourite but this is top level excellent too.

I enjoyed this
I enjoyed this audible book. Would I have enjoyed reading it?... less so perhaps. I listen to audiobooks while taking the dog for a walk or in static situations . Anyway, I did enjoy it and thought that the reader did a good job
