Summary
A Warhammer 40,000 novel

The story
Exile to the miserable world of Sedh, the disgraced Necron Lord Oltyx is consumed with bitterness. Once heir to the throne of a dynasty, he now commands nothing but a dwindling garrison of warriors, in a never-ending struggle against Ork invaders. Oltyx can think of nothing but the prospect of vengeance against his betrayers, and the reclamation of his birthright. But the Orks are merely the harbingers of a truly unstoppable force. Unless Oltyx acts to save his dynasty, revenge will win him only ashes. And so he must return to the crownworld, and to the heart of the very court which cast him out. But what awaits there is a horror more profound than any invader, whose roots are tangled with the dark origins of the Necrons themselves.

Necron books for the win!
I am pleasantly surprised by how brilliant the Necrontyr have proved to be as protaganists, first in the Infinite and Divine and now in this beauty. Fantastic story, well told. Can't wait for the sequel.

A bit of a clunky guided history tour.
So...the story is quite thin, and so is the main character.
This book for the most part is about showing a lot of Necrons history and societal structures trough the eyes of a royal Necron that has fallen from grace.
It is very insightful on those larger subjects, but the story itself, as well as its main character are on the thinner side.
With that said, I did enjoy it a lot.

Spooky Skeleton has best character development
Absolutely loved it, it's funny how a spooky scary skeleton death robot is more of a compelling character than most humans. A must read for 40k fans

the ruin of a dynasty
A great story , ever since the last necron book I wanted to see more , now with all the characters , it really gives an interesting perspective on necron dynasty rather than just a few MCs

surprisingly good
Where The Infinite and the Divine is a great book and i recommend it, this book is centred from a more typical protagonist. I learned a lot about necron and their decay due to the long sleep.
Narration is supurb, awesome job.

A lot deeper than I had expected
For the first couple of chapters I didn't feel much for Oltyx, he felt like a rather annoying character, unlikable.
This very much changed as I got to learn more and more about the Necron Lord, great character development, very well written story with rivalry between a warrior and his brother.

Another hit
Another great piece by Crowley.
A compelling and interesting story about necron dynastic strugless, suprisingly enough a heros journey for a lord wronged and a dynasty in ruin.
Also for any interested in the flayed ones. This book is great for how much attention and detail the ghouls get.
