About this listen

The Twisted Sword is the eleventh novel in Winston Graham's hugely popular Poldark series, which has become a television phenomenon starring Aidan Turner.

Cornwall 1815. Demelza sees a horseman riding down the valley and senses disruption to the domestic contentment she has fought so hard to achieve. For Ross has little option but to accept the summons – and travel to Paris with his family, as an 'observer' of the French armed forces.

Parisian life begins well with an exhilarating round of balls and parties. But the return of Napoleon brings separation, distrust and danger to the Poldarks . . . and always for Demelza there is the shadow of the secret she does not even share with Ross.

The Twisted Sword is followed by Bella Poldark.

Never fails to write a wonderful story.

Think I enjoyed this more than any of the previous books - and I have loved them all. Oliver J Henbrough once again did a brilliant job.

Most loved characters

Amazing series of books which I started for the first time during the original Poldark series in the 70s.This book is one of my favourites. The war descriptions are horrible and the bit about the horse traumatised me a bit but alas true to life. So sad what happened. Reread and listen to these books multiple times. Narrator is superb. Sends me to sleep every night. Just as well I know the stories off by heart.

sometimes need a long well paced historically informative well written book
As other reviewers advised well narrated.

Great story

One of the saddest stories in the series, but also one of the best. One more to go!

Excellent

Oliver Hembrough is excellent in his reading of this and the other Poldark books. He does occasionally slip in the pronunciation of a few words, but that's pardonable. A significant error, for lovers of Shakespeare, is the claim that Juliet was 14, whereas she was actually 13.
