About this listen

A tale of danger and desire from #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts, The Welcoming follows a man in pursuit of a master criminal risking more than his life when he meets a woman who steals his heart.

Charity Ford’s seaside inn on Orcas Island is a home away from home for people seeking the simple pleasures in life. Falling prey to a hit-and-run accident has made Charity even more aware of how precious life is. But what she doesn’t know is some of her guests are not who they appear to be. Some are involved in illegal activities—and they’re responsible for Charity’s near death experience. Enter Roman DeWinter, an undercover federal agent on a mission to bring the criminals to justice. He failed to protect Charity once but now he’ll do anything to keep her safe.

Creepy man. Many many red flags

Nora Robert’s has dropped the ball with this one. The protagonist Roman would have me fleeing for the hills. Writing from a male perspective does not work for the author. He comes across as creepy and spends the first few chapters (which were all I could stomach) leering at Charity, the female interest and giving off dangerous vibes. In real life this complete stranger would never be invited back to the house! It’s so unrealistic and the beginning is too rushed with no proper introduction into the characters. I know that these books are heavy on romance but there is no way in hell that a woman would be so enchanted by this dodgy bloke that she would give him a job and allow him to lay hands on her within moments of meeting him. And then take him into her home!!! I can’t carry on with it because it’s making me angry that a woman is being shown as so gullible and vulnerable.
I’m claiming a refund.

lack of plot, too much romantic nonsense

utter drivel, got half way through and still no story or suspense. very like an old 1970s mills and boon very disappointing. Good narration though
