Summary

Exclusive to Audible! Listen to a discussion between the author and the narrator of The Widow at the end of this recording.

We've all seen him: the man - the monster - staring from the front page of every newspaper, accused of a terrible crime.

But what about her: the woman who grips his arm on the courtroom stairs - the wife who stands by him?

Jean Taylor's life was blissfully ordinary. Nice house, nice husband. Glen was all she'd ever wanted: her Prince Charming.

Until he became that man accused, that monster on the front page. Jean was married to a man everyone thought capable of unimaginable evil.

But now Glen is dead, and she's alone for the first time, free to tell her story on her own terms.

Jean Taylor is going to tell us what she knows.

Amazing narrator and author

Best narrator I have EVER listened to, this is a wonderful and intelligent book. It isn't narrated it's acted. Listening to the author and narrator chat at the end was an added bonus! fantastic

Incredibly insightful, brilliantly portrayed characters

Could not put this down and listened most of the night and day! One of the best books recently heard and narrator added yet more shape to the characters! Will listen to this one again before too long!

Pervert in plain sight alert

Would you listen to The Widow again? Why?

Probably not; I rarely relisten because I have. So many books still to hear for the first time.

What did you like best about this story?

Realism, honesty, realisation. It depicts a story that's going on now; sexual predators leading an otherwise normal, ordinary life. The monster in our midst.

What about Clare Corbett’s performance did you like?

Measured and well delivered.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Quite a few.

Any additional comments?

Strong plot, great characters and really on the money for showing how ordinary many sexual predators can seem.

Great characters

Story was predictable but well written. The style of retelling events from different characters POV makes the reader feel like a voyeur, perhaps the author tried to mimic tabloid journalism :-) . Enjoyable story and excellently narrated by Clare Corbett

Very slow

How much can you draw out on a story of missing child and a known suspect? Quite alot actually according to this book. I could have read the first couple of chapters and the last and don’t think I would have missed anything

Great book! One of the most enjoyable EVER!

I'm not going to spoil anything here but will simply say that the book is really well written, has a great story, with great believable/deep characters and it does not disappoint! It twists and turns and leaves you reeling!
As for the narration ..I think I might be a tiny bit in love with Clare Corbett...she's utterly brilliant!!
