About this listen
'This special and magical book has changed the way I see the world' Dan Saladino
'Inspiration and delight sparkle from every page … This book [is] a revelation of joy to the general reader for whom wild food is another country'John Wright, author of the River Cottage handbooks
A captivating and lyrical journey into our ancestral past, through what and how we eat.
Mo Wilde made a quiet but radical pledge: to live only off free, foraged food for an entire year. In a world disconnected from its roots, eating wild food is both culinary and healing, social and political. Ultimately, it is an act of love and community. Using her expert knowledge of botany and mycology, Mo follows the seasons to find nutritious food from hundreds of species of plants, fungi and seaweeds, and in the process learns not just how to survive, but how to thrive. Nourishing her body and mind deepens her connection with the earth – a connection that we have become estranged from but which we all, deep down, hunger for.
This hunger is about much more than food. It is about accepting and understanding our place in a natural network that is both staggeringly complex and beautifully simple. THE WILDERNESS CURE is a diary of a wild experiment; a timely and inspiring memoir which explores a deeper relationship between humans and nature, and reminds us of the important lost lessons from our past.

inspirational story and relevant to here and now
As a forager I love what Monica Wilde has said in this book. I've met her and she is a wise and very knowledgeable woman. This is an experiment I was keen to hear about and listen to her story. Mo narrates it too which was lovely to hear her voice. It's inspiring me to eat more foraged foods than I do already and in a way that cares for us and Gaia too, with compassion, interest and care.

True, inspirational, heartwarming
A true account of one woman’s journey which is truly inspiring. I really enjoyed hearing about how food was gathered and what was eaten, this was balanced nicely with little threads of facts and history. This book gets you thinking and gives you a sense of hope in connecting with nature and knowledge it’s holds.

Really enjoyed listening to it
Loved the book. It opened my eyes on the all the things are possible to eat in the wild. I am keen to learn more about foraging, about collecting and preparing wild foods, and this book is such an inspiration. Last chapter “Thanksgiving” moved me to tears. I know what it is like to grow up not belonging, uprooted. I now live in England for 20 years, but the questioning “where are you from?” never stops. Often in the group of people I would be the only one needing to confirm my provenance, to explain my existence. Belonging to Earth is such a beautiful concept, than deeply resonates with me.
I have listened to the audiobook, but will be buying a paper book as well, so I can return and re-read.

Life changing
Fascinating and inspirational book, beautifully read by Monica. Not only a personal diary of living through a year of eating wild food, but a love letter to the Earth and why we must cherish our land and seas. I am motivated to eat seasonally now and realised how little I had previously understood about what seasonal eating really means. A must read

What a treat.
What a pleasure it has been to listen to this book. Full of knowledge, emotions and thought provoking. Got me thinking about how to be a more giving being on this planet and give back for the gifts that Gaia provides. And Mo's voice made a wonderful companion for few days, wonderful storytelling. Thank you.

Beyond inspirational!
Totally absorbing.
I spend a lot of time foraging but there’s no way I could survive a year on my finds with my current mindset and knowledge bank.
Mo’s ingenuity at mealtimes was particularly inspiring and at times my mouth was watering! In fact I’m also going to buy a physical copy of the book so I can through and really let her various uses of common ‘weeds’ sink in.
This book is a must if you’re concerned about upcoming food shortages, price increases and the ability to afford healthful and fresh produce.
Thank you Mo for sharing your year long adventure with us, I loved it ☺️
