Summary

LuAnn Tyler is a single parent striving to escape a life of endless poverty. Then a mysterious Mr Jackson makes her an offer he thinks no one can refuse: a guarantee to be the winner of the $100 million lottery. But LuAnn won't do it.

Less than 24 hours later, she is fighting for her life and running from a false murder charge. Jackson's offer - and its condition that she leave the country forever - seems her only hope.

Ten years later LuAnn secretly returns to the United States to begin a new life with Matthew Riggs, a man whose origins are as murky as her own. But a canny reporter has picked up her trail, as have the FBI - and Jackson. Matt Riggs is the only person who can help her. But is help what Matt intends, or is he, too, closing in for the kill?

Suspense-filled roller-coaster action from one of the world's master storytellers.

narration

Very dreary narration and it was hard to distinguish whose voice as all the characters sounded the same

Great sweeping story.

Really well read and immersive book. Great villain, interesting idea about a massive lottery swindle, enjoyable escapist adventure

Buckets full of action and suspense

A great murder mystery. Mingled with everyday life and drama. Humorous, sadness, horror with a little sexy romance, thrown in for good measure. I really enjoyed this book. A good book to come back to. Time and time again. Definitely a favourite.

Very entertaining

This is quite an exciting story if somewhat unrealistic and one of the characters 'quick change' abilities are implausible. All that aside it is an entertaining and enjoyable listen.

SPOILER ALERT (ish)

overall this book was ok, the narrator was ok too. My main problem with the book are the tired old formulas used by the author to paste over the plot holes, and there are many of them. Rule number 1 for baddies should be, just kill your victim when you get the chance. Don't talk too much or come up with methods of long slow deaths that give the victims time to get away.

What a Story!

As usual a wonderful book written by a master of the story.
Couldn't stop listening to this book and when it was over I breathed a sigh of relief!
The Winner focuses on a girl who becomes a woman by an extraordinary series of events and the life she lives is both enviable and scary.
100% great book!

Great book

Twists and turns all the way, would’ve been better if male and female parts were spoken respectively as it was a little difficult sometimes to differentiate bit all in all a very good story line. Would recommend.
