Summary

Psychopath. No sooner is the word out than images of murderers, suicide bombers and gangsters flash across our minds. But unlike their box-office counterparts, not all psychopaths are violent or even criminal. In fact they are fearless, confident, ruthless and focused - qualities tailor-made for success in twenty-first-century society.

In this groundbreaking adventure into the world of psychopaths, renowned psychologist Kevin Dutton reveals a shocking truth: psychopaths have something to teach us.

Critic reviews

" The Wisdom of Psychopaths is a surprising, absorbing, and perceptive book...I found it altogether fascinating." (Philip Pullman)
"Dutton tackles an elusive, important and much neglected aspect of the mind; our personality. He presents some highly original insights and does so in a provocative and humorous style." (V. S. Ramachandran, author of The Tell-Tale Brain)

Excellent audiobook

Solid book, great use of research and fantastic narration. Interesting theme that takes the reader off on many paths, then manages to tie everything together and provoke thought and debate.

Best narrated book ever

Very interesting story line backed up with facts and narration is absolutely off the charts it reads like a well crafted novel rather then a non fiction book quite impressive

Analysis lacking, but was 00s written.

Given what we now know about neural networks and systems analysis, the analysis within seems very dated to those in the know.

Was probably a good book for the time. The author seems to, in hindsight, have not applied any critical thinking to the subject, which is both good and bad.

If you've already read or listened to later books on psychopathy, probably not worth it. If you haven't, a good text to start with.

Good work to fall asleep to. I did over many nights.

brain food!

I enjoyed this book, once I got into the habit of the language used. luckily I didn't need a dictionary by my side, but I can imagine some people will. it was good to hear the positives and the acceptance that not all psychopaths are criminals. an engaging and entertaining listen

Route to the psychopath’s mind

I think every one going to the University should read this (or in this case have it read to them) to get a glimpse of how to deal with a Psychopath.
Very insightful and at times entertaining.
David Timson is the best narrator that I have heard. David makes this book a marvellous rollercoaster, sometimes he is reading it to you, most of the time he is talking to you.

disturbing..

really interesting study- disturbing at times. very well narrated. some passages quite technical but peppered with enough anecdotes for the layman to grasp the theories behind the narrative.

Facts and humour keep you interested

Struggled to finish, and though the narrator has a lovely voice, he was kind of putting me to sleep at times. There was some funny parts to the book, and it was definitely interesting. I liked learning facts about psychology and psychopathy.
