About this listen
The BookWorld's leading enforcement officer Thursday Next is four months into an enforced semi-retirement following an assassination attempt. She returns home to Swindon for what you'd expect to be a time of recuperation. If only life were that simple. Thursday is faced with an array of family problems - son Friday's lack of focus since his career in the Chronoguard was relegated to a might-have-been, daughter Tuesday's difficulty perfecting the Anti-Smote shield needed to thwart an angry Deity's promise to wipe Swindon off the face of the earth, and Jenny, who doesn't exist. And that's not all.
With Goliath attempting to replace Thursday at every opportunity with synthetic Thursdays, the prediction that Friday's Destiny-Aware colleagues will die in mysterious circumstances and a looming meteorite that could destroy all human life on earth, Thursday's retirement is going to be anything but easy.

Another ace Thursday Next tale
I have been a fan of this series since stumbling on the intriguingly titled "Lost in a good book" .
This is another great story that ties up previous loose ends in classic Nextian fashion while leaving scope for other sequels.
I hope there will be more travels in the BookWorld.
This was the first in the series that I listened to on Audible and I thought the reader performed very well, just like I imagine Thursday to sound.

Quintessential Fforde, not so well read
Quirky, witty, highly confusing to anyone who doesn't relax by untangling string. The performance suffered from occasional, jarring lapses of comprehension. Inappropriate inflections inadequately understood sentence structure made this, for me, a very frustrating listen.

Rare perfect ending
I should probably go back and review the first one because we all probably liked it if we got through the rest of them. I know I did!

Frustrating
I feel that one more book is needed. What happened to Landon and the kids. As they don’t seem to feature in her later life.
However as always the story was good and the narrator perfect. But Please Please get rid of the awful music that has permeated my brain throughout the series

Friction in fiction and beyond in Bookworld
What made the experience of listening to The Woman Who Died a lot the most enjoyable?
Its concepts are new, funny and totally original. And I can think of no book that has such clever wordplay.
What did you like best about this story?
This and the others in the series are totally original and so require something similarly innovative. Despite the zillions of books currently out there, many of which are huge successes, there isn't that much choice - most are at best derivative and many are just pale copies. The nearest I can think of are the 6-book Hitchiker trilogy and the Dirk Gently books by the very great (and sadly, late), Douglas Adams.
What about Gabrielle Kruger’s performance did you like?
For me, Gabrielle Kruger really IS Thursday Next. She has a delicious speaking voice and absolutely nails the dry, usually sarcastic humour of Thursday.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Now you can really get into a book! (film strapline)
Any additional comments?
Jasper Fforde has - apparently - stopped writing Thursday Next books.
For some reason, this is not currently a criminal offence.
Strange world...
