One of the older books

I am an avid Lisa Jewell reader/ listener and have ‘read’ all in Audible, mostly haven given 5 stars. This was an older story, which is obvious. In my opinion it hasn’t stood the test of time and some of the language used is near the knuckle in terms of political correctness, outdated terms which we now don’t use. The story itself was okay, listenable and enjoyable if a little slow and obvious. The main thing for me though is the narrator, really over the top delivery which nearly made me give up the story but glad I persevered. All in all, enjoyable but no where near her other stories.

I laughed out loud so many times!

Absolutely fantastic narration, each character had their own voice so clear it made the characters come to life instantly loved it and the story, laughed out loud many times and shouted many times at the characters too 😆

Spoilt by narrator

I enjoy almost all of Lisa Jewell’s books. This has been a huge disappointment, mainly because of the narrator. The story itself starts off promisingly, and I feel I might have rated it a lot higher but for one major problem. The narrator is way over the top in her characterisation. This unfortunately left me disliking all of the people in the book. The men especially come over as idiots, and it was a shame as beneath it all, I believe there was an enjoyable tale. My advice would be to read the book rather than listen to it.

Loved it

I loved it from beginning to end, narrated well, always a good story with a twist at the end from Lisa Jewell. Well worth a listen.

Not my favourite Lisa Jewell book

The story was very predictable and found the performance a bit irritating at times, usually enjoy Lisa’s books

Made me laugh

This book was first released in 2000, so bear this in mind when listening. Light hearted but accurate depiction of navigating your 30s in the naughties from both a male and female perspective. Narration is entertaining and enthusiastic!

A lovely story but no backbone

As with all of Lisa’s, work her writing is incredible detailed and paints a perfect picture. This story though took a long time to get where it needed to be. Despite this it was an excellent listen.
