About this listen
Throughout history, acts of defiance have taken place in secret, in kitchens, churches, through trusted networks. Others were projected onto a global stage through art, politics and activism.
From Alice Walker to Beyoncé, from Audre Lorde to Doreen Lawrence, from Aretha Franklin to Zendaya: Catherine Joy White charts her own journey to self-discovery through the prism of extraordinary women to create a beautiful tapestry of Black joy.
Taking on the legacy of Angela Davis's Women, Race and Class, Audre Lorde's Sister Outsider and Saidiya Hartman's Wayward Lives, This Thread of Gold brings new life to the history of Black women's resistance.©2023 Catherine Joy White (P)2023 Hachette Audio UK

Beautifully written and brilliantly read
Full of fascinating stories and insights. Eye-opening and thought-provoking, as well as being beautifully written. The author reads with passion and compassion, heart and hope, which makes it a joy to listen to. It has inspired me to look further into the lives and stories of many of the women who are celebrated within the chapters.

Exceptionally researched & brilliantly narrated
An absolutely wonderfully written and research book, which captures the stories experiences and some very special themes, of the human experience, pertaining to black women in particular. There's so much inspiration to be discovered from posed questions, which make the reader reflect on their own experience. There's wisdom beyond the years of the writer who captures the the gold passed from generation to generation and not just the challenges faced by black women. The references which cover over 100 years of events and experiences, are very well conglomerated in a neat package of powerful, meaningful and inspiring writing. I love the narration and believe this book could not have been read any better by any of the highly paid professionals out there, I've heard on other autdio books, the timely gentle smooth tones make this an easy to listen and relaxing book to meditate on and deeply consider its themes. I highly recommend this book! This is my female David Olusoga. Well met and well done Catherine!!
