About this listen
The world has collapsed, and there are no heroes any more. His name is Three, a travelling gun for hire in a dying world. He has no allegiances, no family, no ties.
Against his better judgment, he accepts the mantle of protector to a sick woman on the run, and her young son. Together they set out across the plains in search of a mythic oasis, attempting to survive the forces that pursue them, and the creatures of the dark.
In these dark times, a hero may yet arise.

Entertaining
Three is an enjoyable and easy listen. The main story is not complicated and the world it is set in is never really explained e.g. who or what are the Weir, why is it a post-apocalyptic society and who is Three but I found myself caring about the characters which the narrator brings alive very well. The book does have the feel of a video game about it (not surprising considering the authors former career) but don’t let that put you off.
Over all an enjoyable book and well narrated.

The story had promise but I felt it failed me
Luke Daniel's does a good repertoire and voices as usual.
the story premise was good but I felt like there was lots of silly and unnecessary Crying from Ren and hair sticking to his face.
I would like to know more about the Weir
I bought the second book but if it's the same as the first I'll leave it at that.
overall itself a bit childish and it's writing compared to other books

Amazing!
In a post apocalyptic and ravaged world lives Three, a mysterious bounty hunter who finds himself the unintentional guardian to a mother, Cass, and her young son, Wren. It's a dark and dangerous place peopled by Weirs, zombie like creatures who are out to kill any humans who are out after dark. The humans who have survived whatever happened to the world and have enhanced abilities must still lock themselves away during the hours of darkness to stay safe.
The story is fascinating with compelling characters, the baddies are totally bad and very scary, the action scenes are vivid. Some teary moments involving Wren and Cass. The ending is totally unexpected..and sad. Luke Daniels' narration is amazing and it's impossible not to be moved to sadness, feel the tension and suspense.

Slow Burner
Any additional comments?
It took me a long time to get into this book and I spent most of the first half wondering whether I had made a mistake choosing it. But good news - by the end of the book I loved it and promptly bought books 2 and 3.

Three travellers - mother, son and Three
Not my usual choice of genre, with isolated patches of humanity hunted at night by terrifying creatures known as Weirrs. But the reading was so well executed by Luke Daniels, the story became totally compelling, adventure filled yet also touching in it's humanity. Although little is learned about the world which they inhabit or the enemies they face, the three main protagonists slowly reveal their secrets to us, not good, perhaps, but not all evil either.
Most enjoyable.

Glad I persevered!
A little confused at first and found the voices annoying but I really got into it and loved the characters.

Beyond Words!
This story is incredible. For the longest time since books like LOTR and Eragon I could not get back into books. Nothing seemed to catch my imagination. This story has changed all that and had me hooked immediately. The lack of information at first felt off putting but quickly became apparent that's what kept me listening. The story and twists unravelled at a steady pace which was perfect. Just when you recover from one revelation the next starts keeping you hooked. The main character Three appears cold but grows on you as do Cass and Wren through the charcter development. By the end I was surprisingly attached to the trio! The feel of the world and it's darkness is conveyed amazing by the narrator and I would definitely listen to him again. Did not see the ending coming. All in all amazing debut. Get this book you won't be disappointed!

Brilliant
Intelligent post apocalyptic/dystopian sci fi. How have I only just heard about these books? Like a cross between I am legend and an Isaac Asimov story.

lots of fantasy tropes and stories thrown together
This may be a good start for people getting into fiction or preteens but otherwise is unimaginative and lazy writing. The characters and scenes are not described well. The story mainly runs on luck rather than past experiances or skills. The motivations for half of the charcters are never explained. The world is interesting but doesn't seem to effect the plot significantly. The sample recording sounds interesting but is nearly completely irrelevant to the plot and world building. The whole book including the many action scenes are slow paced.
If you have read more than 5 fiction books in your life than avoid this book as you will know everything before it happens. Worse book I have heard/read all year.
