U.S. allies around the world are already wiped out. The United States will cease to exist inside of five minutes. After giving the order to launch a full-scale retaliation–dooming the planet–the president, his staff, Secret Service and those lucky enough to be visiting the White House, are whisked below ground, where they board several Earth Escape Pods. Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Finally the Bruno that I liked is back.
Excellent!
This is what they mean when they say time flies because those eight hours where gone way to fast, in fact Einstein have proved that time is not a constant and now I’m sure about it to.
Truly a beautiful beginning for an excellent series, I’ve enjoyed this audiobook so much that now I fear of disappointment as I move to audiobook two which came out today of this series.
So, I’ve already said that this audiobook is excellent about choosing R.C. Bray for narration? Also excellent he totally nailed it!
I absolutely recommend this Audiobook.
And I hope that in time I’ll be recommending the whole series.

Can’t recommend
Lots of people have enjoyed this, but I found it unlistenable. The performance is fine, but the story is more fantasy than science fiction. I won’t go in to details for fear of spoiling it for people who would enjoy it, but the main character’s skills and luck are, to me, entirely unbelievable, and he’s very benignly intended for someone in his profession. I stopped listening very quickly- it just grated constantly against my need for even vague plausibility.
If you like action, very able heroes, a fast moving plot, and don’t mind implausible action, then it should be fine. It’s only the second Audible book I’ve abandoned, so it definitely wasn’t for me.

A good futuristic vision, not a happy one though
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
The Book
This was a dark gritty view of the future of humanity after a devasatating extinction level event. Now humanity is virtually run by corporations in opposition to each other and life is not easy. Our hero is a dissillusioned bounty hunter of sorts who works for one of the largest of these corporations and we see him and his partner interact with all walks of life.
The Production
R.C. Bray narrates this very well and is very well suited to the character. Narration is clear and very well done.

A pretty decent team.
Having first read Titanborn nearly three years ago and absolutely loved it, I decided it was time to reprise the book but this time in Audio. This can be a mistake - the addition of a narrator can alter the mental pictures created by the original text. But the performance of this novel was by R.C.Bray and if anything he enhanced my enjoyment of the story.
Firstborn is visual in it's worldbuilding. Sent around the time of the 300th anniversary of the meteorite hitting earth, causing phenomenal damage and loss of life and initiating the colonisation of Titan, other space colonies have now been established and rule was controlled by giant corpoations, often in opposition to each other. Malcolm Graves works for one of the largest and has done so for over 30 years. He is a Collector, a sort of bounty hunter, told where to go and what to do for a fee. He has, at least officially, always worked alone. Until, following an explosion on Earth in New London which he is to investigate, he is partnered with a young man on an elite training scheme in which the participants have special cybernetic modifications.
This is far more than a simple detective buddy story set in the future, though it is that, of course. It paints a very plausible, and ugly, picture of racial oppression, of family ties and emotional conflict, of political power games, right and wrong, human frailties and so much more. It is a superb book and excellently narrated.
Highly recommended

Interesting, entertaining, and enjoyable
Set some 300 years in a future where Earth survived an asteroid strike and humanity has started to colonise the solar system, while also sending out interstellar colony ships, Titanborn looks at some political and economic issues facing humanity, and the events that follow after a terrorist attack. This one hooked me from the start and took me on a great journey across the solar system while delivering a thoroughly entertaining story. I'll definitely be checking out the sequels.

Great Mystery Sci-fi
Firstly, let me just say I really enjoyed this book. In the beginning I thought it was a bit slow but the characters were well done and I personally thought the ending was great. There were a couple of plot twists and some people will see them and some won’t. Overall, this was a great book.
Alright, so this book as touted as ‘like the Expanse’ and I’d say this is a fair assessment. The world built by the author has a very Expanse feel in that there’s the ‘earthers’ and then the ‘ringers’, similar to the expanse having the ‘inners’ and ‘belters’ (and nearly identical animosities). I particularly found the reorganization of earth cities into long metropolitan strings to be very unique and also made a lot of sense for a potential society.
The protagonist himself is sorta similar to the Expanse’s Miller - he’s akin to a bounty hunter who has made a lot of mistakes in life, drinks to much and only really lives for the job. The book flashes back to how he got this way and while Malcom (protagonist) lives a less than stellar life, you do end up caring for him.
Without getting to much more into it, the supporting characters are also themselves unique and well written. The book itself is part of a series but the second one is about a different set of characters (according to the description) and the way this book ended, a reader could realistically read only this book and feel they had completed a story if the thought of beginning another series is a bit daunting.
Overall, again - highly recommend the book for anyone looking for a shorter mystery sci-fi.
And as always, R.C. Bray provided a fantastic narration with consistent characters and an ever present enthusiasm for the story.

A Solid Read
Titanborn was a solid read, though it did take me quite a while to become fully invested in it. The first half of the book is quite slow but I put that down to building the world and characters so I didn’t mind too much.
The plot was slow to start and I was a little bored at times, but it eventually picked up and I ended up really enjoying it. I love that the book takes us from Earth to Mars and even near to Saturn where Titan is. The world as we know it is completely different and Bruno did a good job with creating such an expansive universe.
Upon seeing the cover I think I expected more of a space opera type of book, but it’s not really, it’s more focused on the Bounty Hunter and the mystery behind the bombings, which I enjoyed.
The characters were well written and developed and I pretty much enjoyed it as much as I did because of them. They more than made up for the slow pace. Malcolm was gruff, strong, and did his job really well. He let no one or nothing influence him. He is seen as one of the best in the business and usually works alone. When he’s asked to look into the recent bombings, he is told that he will have a partner. Zhaff was the total opposite of Malcolm and I loved that! It was funny to see them interact and to see how Malcolm reacted to Zhaff. I loved both their characters!
In all, Titanborn, while being slow to get going, was still a pretty good read. The world building and character development more than made up for the pacing and I’m hoping now that that’s done, the rest of the books will have more action. Upon finishing it, (because the ending was awesome) I had to see if the next one was available because I’m excited to see where the author goes with it.
R.C. Bray is one of the best in the business. His array of voices and tones are astounding and he never just reads a story, he performs it. A true storytelling master. It’s hard to come up with new things to say about him but he really is that good!

Bruno writes a great story
This is my first Bruno book, and, thanks to RC Bray, I’ve found a new author that I like. The story was engaging and the characters full of life...on to book 2

Scifi Noir
Not sure how this comes across if you're reading hardcopy, but as an audio listen, the narrator definitely pegs this story as scifi noir. Is that a thing? It is now. Malcolm Graves is a bounty hunter working for a corporation, Prevenio. After a terrorist bombing on Earth, Provenio partners Malcolm up with a cyborg and sends them out to Titan after the bad guys.
Loner hardcase. Check. Drinks way too much. Check. Works alone. Check. Has driven his family away. Check. Hates his new partner. Check and double check. This is like being tossed into a futuristic version of Mike Hammer - and the dames are shooting to kill in this one.
The narration is a combination of Stacey Keach and Dragnet. A part of me thinks its on purpose to convey the noir tone, but there's one part with Ryla? sounds like a robot, and I don't think she is. This could have been loosened up a tad, IMO.

Straightforward, Excellent sci-fi adventure
Between the wonderful story writer Rhett C. Bruno has crafted, with all its exquisite worldbuilding and character defining detail, and the terrific narration by veteran sci-fi book reader R.C. Bray, this book really is a real treat for all fans of sci-fi Westerns, space opera, and tech noir... I'll definitely be coming back for the next installments in the Children of Titan series, and I encourage everyone to start here at the beginning!

Great Story!
Rhett C. Bruno is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I thought this book started off a bit slow, but it sure picked up and was a thrilling ride! Especially that ending! Well done. Malcolm is gruff and does what needs to be done to get the job done. R.C. Bray really brought this book to life. He was a great choice to narrate this book. Overall I recommend this one and will be continuing this series for sure.

on the brink of a great series
I really want this to be a favorite. It's trying. It's close. But it's not quite there. I think it could find it's rhythm and be a great series. Great concept. Book 2 was even better, i'm not giving up.

Suprisingly good!
Narration was a perfect match with the story. Great light escapism. Set up well for the next in the series.
