Summary

The Instant #1 Sunday Times Bestseller
Winner of the Sports Book Awards 2022

The inspirational memoir from rugby league legend Rob Burrow on his extraordinary career and his battle with motor neurone disease.

‘A pocket rocket of a player and a giant of a character . . . He is one in a million and his story is truly inspirational’ Clare Balding

‘I’m not giving in until my last breath’ Rob Burrow

Rob Burrow is one of the greatest rugby league players of all time. And the most inspirational. As a boy, Rob was told he was too small to play the sport. Even when he made his debut for Leeds Rhinos, people wrote him off as a novelty. But Rob never stopped proving people wrong. During his time at Leeds, for whom he played almost 500 games, he won eight Super League Grand Finals, two Challenge Cups and three World Club Challenges. He also played for his country in two World Cups.

In December 2019, Rob was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, a rare degenerative condition, and given a couple of years to live. He was only 37, not long retired and had three young children. When he went public with the devastating news, the outpouring of affection and support was extraordinary. When it became clear that Rob was going to fight it all the way, sympathy turned to awe.

This is the story of a tiny kid who adored rugby league but never should have made it and ended up in the Leeds hall of fame. It’s the story of a man who resolved to turn a terrible predicament into something positive when he could have thrown the towel in. It’s about the power of love, between Rob and his childhood sweetheart Lindsey, and of the life-changing bond of friendship between Rob, Kevin Sinfield, and their Rhino teammates.

Far more than a sports memoir, Too Many Reasons to Live is a remarkable, awe-inspiring story of boundless courage and infinite kindness.

WOW

What an absolutely brilliant book, I enjoyed every minute and have learned so much from this inspirational man and his wonderful family and friends. Always loved Rob even though I’m a Wigan fan and like every was devastated when I heard he had got MND, this book takes you on his journey and covers his many years playing for Leeds. It is truly inspiring, no feeling sorry for himself even though he must have many dark days, just wanting to make the most out of the time he’s got left surrounded by his beautiful family and surrounded by love. God Bless you Rob x

Amazing

What an amazing story. I am a Rugby Union fan and have watched league occassionally. I really enjoyed the rugby stories, input from friends and family and most of all the warmth, passion and dedication of Rob's words. Inspiring, emotional and gripping read. Thank you to Rob for telling his story.

Too Many Reasons to Live is a must read/ listen

I have listened to the audio version of this book in a period of 48 hours. I could not stop listening. It had me laughing and crying out loud in equal measures. However if you think it is going to be a sad story you are wrong. It is inspirational, not sad. It takes you through the many highs and the lows of Robs life and is so well put together and will help many people facing difficult times for many different reasons I am sure.
I have watched Leeds Rhinos ( Leeds RL you can tell I’m old) since going to my first game at 7 years old and being part of the RL family is what I love but the book gives you a great insight into what it’s like to go through those high and lows of wins and loses from a player point of view. As a fan we sometimes do not appreciate the players feelings, torments and struggles. The other insight is the hard work and dedication it takes to get there in the first place and entertain us. Rob’s bravery in his rugby life and facing MND is beyond words. He talks about being remember as a ‘Top bloke’ but he is way above that. Words from his amazing family and friends adds to the sense of you feeling you get to know a little more about the amazing man that is Rob Burrow.

I have listened to many an audio book and Matthew Lewis and Rachel Shenton do a fantastic job of narrating. Makes it easy to listen to and you feel Rob is with you.
