Summary

In the future, humans will no longer rule the world. Elites have taken control of civilised society; humans exist merely to serve. Elites are genetically modified, technologically enhanced versions of humankind. Originally designed and created by man, they were intended to save humanity. Instead, they have slowly usurped humans from leadership and have made them their subjects.

Animosity between Elites and humans is fierce, and many rebels fight back against Elite rule. Hays Baker is a high-ranking agent in the Elite forces and at the forefront of keeping the humans under control. However, Hays is unknowingly hiding a secret that will make him the greatest threat to the Elite regime, and their number one target.

Now hunted by the people he used to work alongside, Hays searches for the truth of his identity. But to understand this, he must first learn of a greater truth, hidden within the rule of the Elite.

Toys - James Patterson

Fantastic fast paced thriller, I devoured it like a hungry dog! Narrator is very easy to listen to, only drawback over 100 chapters. Patterson at his best.

Great narrator, average story, overall enjoyable

This is one of the cases where the narrator makes the book. If I had been reading this one instead of listening to it I'd have probably given up a few chapters in but Matt Bomer can read a shopping list and make it hot (I LOVE HIS VOICE! ). He actually gives a different accent & voice to each and every character, his performance his top notch. Usually actors make for great narrators and this is no exception.

an OK book

I enjoyed elements of this book - the idea of humans being overtaken by intelligent hybrids worked well. It moved at a decent pace, wasn't hard to follow, and a good ending which tied things up well and didn't leave the reader hanging. The story was filled with a few well placed unexpected twists, which always ups the interest level. There are some passages that were a bit too unbelievable and I felt the author lost his track and it got a bit tedious when the main character is fleeing from country to country to rally together resistance fighters. I agree that this is very light fluffy sci fi fiction for passing the time, but if you like this kind of thing then it's quite a good book. Definitively aimed at the late teen market.

Fantastic narration

Matt Bomer has an amazing voice for audio books - he could read the dictionary and I think I’d buy it!
Enjoyed the book, but Matt’s narration gave it a huge boost - loved falling asleep listening to him.

Smart utopia story performed brilliantly

This was a really insightful and exciting story about a possible future. Very smartly written and I could not stop listening to the immersive reading of Matt Bomer. I recommend it to everyone not just to read the book but to listen to this story in Bomer's voice and interpretation.

good but not overwhelming

An honest sci fi thriller. Maybe too sentimental. sci fi might not please to pure thriller lovers. Good, but not outstanding performance of Matt Bomer, excellent in the series "White collar" but not at his best here.
I didn't like mixing music and words at the beginning of each part. Makes understanding words more difficult.
Chapters seemed to be gathered into sections without any clear plan.

Bond plus Superman

This is a teenagers book, if you are an adult move on. Very American with some background lift music. Definitely Sci-Fi light.

The sample is the most interesting part

The only positive for me is that Matt Bomer is an amazing narrator and has a voice like treacle. I found this book extremely slow going and to be honest really boring, I perceived for 3 hours waiting for it to improve but l could not listen anymore. It’s Certainly not upto James’s normal standard at all.
