Story
Even before Myristal went out, before the battle of the Heavens and the Earth broke out, before the Black General was imprisoned on the Mountain of Skulls, a wizard had wandered the endless expanses of the Nameless World in search of his past and his future. This is the legend of Ash, the Master of a Thousand Words, the Bloody General. What's true and what is fiction is up to you to decide.
Summary
No amount of training has prepared Jaevid Broadfeather for the front lines of battle. Now facing the true horrors of war, with Luntharda looming on the horizon, Jaevid has begun to question everything he thought about his heritage. The only thing keeping him going is his oath to protect his dragonrider brothers. But in an instant, even that slips through Jaevid's fingers as he steps from the safety of his dragon's saddle into the depths of his mother's wild homeland - the kingdom of the gray elves.
Stranded in Luntharda with his partner, Lieutenant Jace Rordin, Jaevid must finally confront the demons of his own past as he uncovers the truth about a war that began before he was ever born. Armed with a new appreciation for destiny, and flanked by his trusted friends, Jaevid moves to make the final strike against an enemy that has been hiding in plain sight for far too long.
One kingdom's traitor will become the world's last hope.

Lend me your ears!
This is a terrific series and I can hardly wait to bring number four up so I can once again lose myself in the plot, action, romance, and colorful characters so wonderfully woven together in the three preceding books. Author Nicole Conway has blended all facets together so the action is not the main stay of the book but rather another aspect of a well rounded book where all segments combine. By now the characters are well defined and move the plot along briskly to the last line of the book which leaves us scrambling for #4. (I really resent the never ending series when there are months of delay between the books and you have to relisten to the last of the previous book to remind you why you wanted to spend a credit on this one!) I wasn't pleased with narrator Einstein in the first book. To me he came out as being 'a little over the top' in the first book but he's relaxed and allowed the natural cadence and emotion of the book power his reading. Much better now. I won't let his name on the credits deter any future purchase. Speaking of which, I'll be downloading the fourth book as soon as I send this off.

Best Series I've read in a Long Time!
What made the experience of listening to Traitor the most enjoyable?
Have a narrator that reads well and brings the character to life. AND having the same narrator that's read for the previous books in the series, which keeps me grounded to the character.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Duh, Jaevid, of course! Totally in love with him by this point because of his struggles being a half breed. Yet, he's wound up being a top notch dragon rider and even got a great girl by his side. And what's not to love about the magic he's discovered within him and how to control it?
Which character – as performed by Jesse Einstein – was your favorite?
Um, I feel this is virtually the same question as above. And the answer is still Jaevid! Jesse has done all the books and I seriously can't imagine another voice being attached to the character now. I could hear the emotion in his voice when he read.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were so many moments, it's hard to pick just one. But one that sticks out is the moment Jaevid realizes he'll have to tell Felix about what he has become and that the gray elves aren't their real enemy. While I believed Felix would stand by his side, there was a fear Nicole wouldn't write it that way and it'd would've broken my heart.
Any additional comments?
An absolute must buy and listen!!! This series has made me fonder of dragons!

I enjoyed the first two books but the writing on this one disappointed me halfway through the book and it didn't get better. Jesse did well as they had done before but the writing of Jay was off and it felt like the author wrote themselves into a corner and couldn't quite figure out how to get out of it.
