Summary
Millions of people have thrilled to the adventure of young Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver since the publication of Treasure Island in 1883. It has been dramatized countless times since its appearance. Treasure maps marked with an X, schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and peglegged sailors with parrots on their shoulders: All these stereotypes of the buccaneer tale were the invention of R. L. Stevenson. But make no mistake about it...this novel is a masterpiece of plot development, character study, and sheer writing skill.
In this magnificent production, award winning narrator Charlton Griffin brings these unforgettable characters to life with a zest and clarity never before realized. Thrill to this timeless coming-of-age adventure story as you slip effortlessly into the atmosphere of 18th century England.

A good story ruined by the awful accents
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A reader who can cope with the need for different voices and accents - Sean Barret would do it well but unfortunately he hasn't recorded this. This reader seems to be unable to produce different voices so that you are frequently uncertain who is speaking and He is also inconsistent even with the same character!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jim Hawkins as he is the hero of the story.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
By his terrible attempt to reproduce Devonshire / Cornish confusing them with Scottish accents. Frequently Americanisms come through. It was pretty hopeless I have to say.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Treasure Island?
I do not like abridged versions of stories so this is not applicable.
Any additional comments?
Do not buy this version.I see there are one or two new since I downloaded this one.
