Summary

The machines brought society to its knees. Now, the last remaining humans fight for survival - and to take back what's theirs.

Junior, a robotics expert, tinkers quietly underground. With dozens of machine kills under his belt, he knows the enemy inside and out.

Alpha0verride, a reclusive black hat hacker, uses the skills acquired over a life of shady activity to outwit the hyper-intelligent machines swarming in on her.

Brick, a special forces operator and one of the few Pentagon survivors, fights his inner demons to embark on the most important mission of his life.

Together they are humanity’s last, best hope - if they can only find each other in time.

Leveraging his decades of active military and intelligence community service, Trilobyte is the techno-thriller only J. L. Bourne could write.

Robotic Zombies...I'm Intrigued

A contemporary take on the Zombie apocalypse genre with plausible and well thought out scenarios for the story to develop within.

I liked the author’s writing style and characters. There’s a strong theme of perseverance and ingenuity to survive isolation and a technological nightmare change to society.

The story is nicely paced with a good balance between well considered detail, realistic challenges the characters would encounter and action sequences.

There’s certainly scope for further books in a series and I hope there are as I’d like to know how things develop.

The voice actor performances are very good and well matched for the characters they portray.

First story from J.L. Bourne I’ve listened to and I enjoyed it.

Better than I expected

I kind of had reservations about robot zombies, but this was a really good listen and kept me engaged to the end. Will get the next in the series.

Nice story

Interesting characters written around a solid plot. a bit 'techie' at times but you can actually learn to let that flow by! Human characters and gripping set pieces!

Great concept, so so execution

The concept was very unique, but I didn't find myself as engaged as I thought I would be. The first person narration style makes sense because they're line survivors so I get why they went that way, but I'm not a big fan of it, it makes it feel a bit overly simplistic. It may have been my imagination having a bit of an off day but the descriptions of the "trilo" robots for me could have been better, I was mainly going by the cover art for my image of them rather than the authors description.
I'm forcing my way through it because I am still intrigued by the concept (I'm more than happy to just drop a book I don't like so that's definitely a plus point in this case), but it's not quite what I was hoping for.

Struggled...

I dunno, maybe it's just me but I struggled with this book. Seemed all over the place and just didn't flow storywise. loved the day by day series by this author so was probably expecting something similar.
