Summary
The ultimate enemies-to-lovers, fake dating summer romance from MILLION-COPY BESTSELLER Portia MacIntosh.
Lara and Sonny are sworn enemies.
As rival showbiz journalists, they are always out to get one-up on each other – whether being the first to scoop the latest celebrity gossip, or sabotaging a potential lead.
So when their bosses ask them to join forces and go undercover at an exclusive celebrity retreat, they can’t think of anything worse - except that they are going to need to pretend to be in couples therapy to blend in...
Being on a tropical island for work would be most people’s idea of heaven, but for Lara and Sonny it’s hell. Can a week of sun, sea and uncovering showbiz secrets together chip away at Lara and Sonny’s rivalry? And once they get home and the fake relationship is over, could a real one be left in its place?
MILLION-COPY BESTSELLER Portia MacIntosh's laugh-out-loud romantic comedies are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Fun story
I thought this would be totally predictable….but it didn’t evolve quite as I expected.
I was at times a bit far fetched, but still a fun listen

This book needs to be a movie Portia!!!
I have listened to most of Portia's collection (I'm getting through quickly), and I love each book more than the last, it does take me a bit of time to get to know the characters however. But this one is different.. there's something about this story that makes me not want to stop.
I can picture this as a film and it needs to happen! I absolutely love the realistic feel of the rivalry between Sonny and Lara, and the idea of them put together on an island with celebrities, pretending to be a couple themselves. It's genius, heartwarming and exciting.
Also want to say how much I love Karen Cass' narration of every story. I think the risk of not liking the narrator really puts me off listening to new books, but knowing I will enjoy it makes me feel comforted. She's got such a warm yet expressive voice and gives the characters such depth.

Really Enjoyed This
Well, that was a cute easy listen. I don't want to spoil anything but it was a nice change of pace for me (a dark romance girlie), almost like a palate cleanse. Very enjoyable x

A 'will they, won't they' romance with a kick.
Join Lara and Sonny on their work trip with a difference. As both fight to keep their careers from failing, this duo join a couples retreat in the middle of 'who knows where' because they certainly don't! Blindfolded from the get-go and without any of today's technology to guide them, they must report all the gossip about the celebrities they meet back to their bosses at their separate journalist jobs.
Sonny is fiercely ambitious, and Lara has second thoughts about everything, to be frank.
I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between this likeable couple, and I would thoroughly recommend buying this book.

Loved every moment!
Portia MacIntosh’s ‘Enemies to Lovers’ is a delightful romp through the worlds of journalism, romance, and celebrity culture. Set against the picturesque backdrop of a mysterious island, the novel follows two feuding journalists who find themselves thrust together on an undercover assignment. What ensues is a rollercoaster ride of unexpected twists, laugh-out-loud moments, and sizzling chemistry.
MacIntosh expertly crafts a narrative that not only explores the tension and rivalry between the main protagonists but also delves into the intricacies of modern journalism and the relentless scrutiny of celebrity life. Through their investigative journey, readers are treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the media industry and the moral dilemmas faced by those who inhabit it.
The toxic environment of celebrity culture is laid bare as MacIntosh exposes the pressure and scrutiny faced by the island’s inhabitants. Every move is scrutinized, every secret ripe for exploitation, and the protagonists must navigate this treacherous landscape while staying true to their journalistic integrity.
What sets ‘Enemies to Lovers’ apart is its perfect balance of romance and intrigue. While the protagonists start off as adversaries, their animosity gradually gives way to mutual respect and undeniable attraction. MacIntosh’s witty dialogue and sparkling banter make their budding romance both believable and utterly captivating.
Furthermore, the supporting cast of characters adds depth and dimension to the story, each with their own secrets and struggles. As the protagonists navigate the complexities of their assignment, they are drawn into the tangled web of relationships that exist on the island, forcing them to confront their own preconceptions and biases.
Ultimately, ‘Enemies to Lovers’ is a thoroughly enjoyable read from start to finish. MacIntosh’s writing is sharp, engaging, and filled with heart, making it impossible to put down. Whether you’re a fan of romantic comedies or simply looking for a feel-good read, this book is sure to delight and entertain.
