Summary

A girl murders her own father and mother in cold blood. A whole village of people disappears without trace, and all anyone saw were strange lights in the sky. An Egyptian mummy, disturbed after thousands of years, leaves a trail of horrible disasters. Incredible? Impossible? Too awful to imagine? But someone, somewhere has sworn that each of these sinister stories is true...

Very digestible, some nostalgia bias

These "true" stories are, as with all of Terry Deary's series of true stories, to be taken with a massive pinch of salt. However, I have listened to this collection multiple times. Partly because I borrowed the audio cassettes from my local library as a child and listened to them every Halloween, but also because they are pretty enjoyable as an adult. Clearly aimed at children - but so are Horrible Histories, and that still has adult fans. Denica Fairman is the perfect narrator too. Not exactly terrifying, but still entertaining.

Mostly laugh, but it was also intriguing.

Any additional comments?

Obviously aimed at younger readers i.e. 8-14 years but I still found this enjoyable as an adult. Just wish it was longer.
